Full Version: Win a complete micRo!
Lumenlab > CNC, Automata, Robotics > RoBLOKS
Pages: 1, 2, 3
brainchild
Let's have some fun:

This competition is for a micRo logo. This competition is open to all registered Lumenlab members with a zero warn status, and can include mods, since the logo will be chosen by popular vote. This competition is also open to those who have already purchased micRo.

One submission per member, but you can change your submission any time up until the vote.

The delivered logo needs to be 300dpi if raster and have a print size ≥ 10"x12". Vector art is fine too. When you are ready, post a jpg image of your logo in this thread that is 1280x1024 or smaller; do not upload the full version.

The competition will last about one month if there are ample submissions by that time.

Multiple polls will be run to narrow down to a winner.

The winner will receive a special trophy edition micRo, shipped free!

Slogan is optional, some choices include:

micRo: The Little Beast
micRo: Small but Mighty

Note: All submissions become the legal copyright © of Lumenlab and DIY for Life Inc. Submissions must not contain copyright art unless you are the owner.

Thanks for playing!

I have a few quick clarification questions:

QUOTE (brainchild @ Jul 13 2008, 01:49 PM) *
The delivered logo needs to be 300dpi if raster and have a print size ≥ 10"x12".

Are you asking for a roughly square logo (~10x12 ratio), or are you specifying the minimum length of each side? I.e. can I make a banner-style logo that might be 5"x12", or must it be 10"x24" to meet the minimum lengths?

QUOTE (brainchild @ Jul 13 2008, 01:49 PM) *
Submissions must not contain copyright art unless you are the owner.

Can the submission include any artwork from this site (LumenlabCNC logo, etc.), or only copyrighted art that I have rights to? The reason I ask is that any submission becomes the property of Lumenlab, which already owns the rights to the other images on this site.

Thank you for setting this contest up! You are an extremely generous man with your time, your knowledge, and your resources.

Hi Pirin,

It is not writ in stone, I just want to make sure it is big enough for a t-shirt, mousepad etc. Sure you can use any art that belongs to LL.
SupraGuy
Meh. It's a block... But fairly simple, and gets the point across, I think.

I still have some editing to do on this, but I'll put it up for now.
Quasi_Mojo
What is the font LL uses for the Lumenlab logo?
SupraGuy
The font is called Bitsumishi

Included here, even though it increases my competition. wink.gif

Do you want to place any limitations at all? Number of colors? Stuff like dat?

Of course, once it's yours you can make any changes you want! biggrin.gif

That's very close to the RoBLOKS logo I have in mind.... micRo should be different since there won't be a comp for 'bloks...

I'm not sure this would qualify, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Second attempt (the first one looks like a CAD drawing, but the solid white on the black background is my favorite):

I hear by declare you both disqualified!!! LOL JK laugh.gif I just want less competition... Just make sure you pick one before vote time.

I would post what i have but its not ready yet. Need to install photoshop for finishing touches. Much like Sim I am only proficient at paint! rolleyes.gif

Oh what the heck... I'll show everyone what I have so far. As it stands (7pm Jul 16) this is 100% MS Paint.

Yeah. Too bad mine's the best though. tongue.gif

It is rather nice that they all differ so. I was purposely aiming for a very minimalist kind of thing - no 3D, no drop shadows, etc (okay, so I changed my mind a bit biggrin.gif ). Changed my mind yet again! huh.gif laugh.gif But I pondered the route you took SIM. Supra's has a certain appeal to me as well. Heck, they're all cool.

I've also been thinking about whether to keep the rack or use a screw. Details, details . . .

I just hope we get a crapload more submissions to enjoy! smile.gif

Could somebody add a banner to the top of all forum pages so that those who don't usually come to the RoBLOKS section will know about the contest?

Aw crap. Well, back to the drawing board then.

Actually, my 'alternate' was extremely similar to Quasi's design, but I didn't have the software here to do the 3d rendering properly. I'll have to re-think...

I am a poor college engineering student and the only way to get my hands on this awesome machine would be through this competition. You can bet I'll be working on a logo! Better watch out!

Ok, I'm done. Here's my final version.

Spoke to soon, still working at it dry.gif As of now, this is what it is.

Here is my submission. I came up with a few alternative slogans that can be used.

Such as:

  • mobile CNC
  • portable CNC
  • Small in Size, Big in Power
  • CNC Anywhere

* Quad P stands for powerful + portable + precise = perfection (QxP)

Let me know what you think!
DaveAK
OK, I should really give this a shot as well. So here's my submission :

It was drawn with a Pilot G-2 0.7 pen on 20# standard laser printer paper. I'm not happy with the way the 'y' is spaced from the 'g' in thingy, so it probably needs a little rework if I can find the time.

Just in case I'm unsuccessful in winning a complete kit I have my credit card standing by so I can place my order. smile.gif

Now some may think I have no artistic ability, (which is unfortunately true), but I prefer to think of it as minimalistic simplicity. tongue.gif

I'm trying to keep it clean and functional for decal, printing and web display. biggrin.gif

I went with "small and mighty" because "small but mighty" makes the size sound negative, "small and mighty" stresses the benefit of being small. I would say the average micro hobbyist doesn't have room for the larger unit so the small feature should be as positive a selling point as possible.

I still like mine for slapping on a machine, but this would make an awesome t-shirt design.

Or imagine a mousepad where the grid lines span across the entire pad and the main logo is in the center or in one of the corners.

How many colors do we have to work with? Should it be just a single color (so that it can be machined)?

I suspect you won't get a better answer than that. I kept mine simple for that and other reasons though.

I knew I should have at least attempted to pretend to search...
JPD
Only 11 logos so far. With the way people have been following the development of the micRo, you would think there would be more submittals.

Come on people. I thought there where more than 11 creative people out there.

Can't see everything. Also, even a "simple" design - once chosen and after becoming the property of Lumenlab - could readily be tweaked.

If there would be a poll now i would vote for Sensibull's entry. I like the simplicity of it and with the bars on top and bottom and the large I it makes the connection to main features of the machine.

Most others have to much 'detail'.
IMHO of course. smile.gif

D'Oh! I was working on creating a brushed metal background for my entry. You beat me to it. Hopefully, it's not a problem if I still go ahead with it? So far, all the entries have been quite distinct. But I guess similarities are bound to show up as more people enter the contest.

Nice job on the brushed metal look.
