Is there a way to rip out the screen from an IPAQ and use it as the principal monitor for a mini-computer based off of a pico or nano-itx motherboard?

This has been asked before. http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25934

Here's a Google search of the LL forum: site:lumenlab.com +ipaq

You linked him to your old comment on how you dont think it will, but that wasnt much help either. If anyone knows if this does work, i would happy to use my ipaq in my projector. It is capable of pretty decent video, along with wifi, and some pretty cool emulators. SO if anyone knows if this works, plaese let me know.

In theory the screen would work fine, but you'd still need to be able to input to it, and the guts would be in the pj case, or mounted on the side where you'd have to constantly touch the projector to do anything.

Anything works with time and money behind it, but, to use the popular quote, "is the juice worth the squeeze?"

Oh thanks for the nifty saying. It was cheerio. But seriously I see thses on craigslist all the time for around fifty dollars. Meaning juice is worth the squeeze. Im sure you could find software for it usb hookup to display the desktop through it. But it would have a pc middle man just like our chunky projectors.

you're still missing some parts there though.

first, for $50, you can just as easily get an LCD monitor on craigslist and save the hassle

second, like it was said before, it's a touchscreen interface, which would essentially be useless. You could hook up a micro-usb keyboard and input commands, but that would be the only way to access the actual computer on the inside of the pda itself, which would be inside the projector, and it wouldn't be practical because you'd have to mount it to the projector side, since the old models weren't bluetooth friendly, meaning you couldn't keep the projector behind you, on the ceiling, or under a table.

finally, there is no usb hookup that will connect the screen to another computer to use as a secondary monitor.

now if you had a model that supported bluetooth or a bluetooth adapter you could use a bt keyboard/mouse combo to control the pda, but you wouldn't get true high def out of it, and the bt keyboard mouse would run you between $60 and $100.

I heard you. What im talking about is hooking it up to your pc with activesync. after that you need to find software that will clone your xp desktop and display it on your pocket pc while its hooked up to the pc. Your right in the fact it would be tedious to reach inside your projector to control your pocket pc, but with the right software you can stream your actual desktop. I did a seach for such software today with no luck, but i am sure it exists as i have seen it done on cell phones before. Does anyone with a little more searching expertise know what to type in google to find such software? And as far as a 15" goes, You could make a much smaller projector with 5" screen, and 15's dont fit on my ohp.

Jumped ahead - just to say seeing as Dell stopped the Axim, shame really - anyway my axim x51v can output to external monitor through a usb dongle - also supports blue tooth kb etc.

how ever - personally - more of a pita then its worth. Would be a great build on a "just to do it" level with little or no practicle aplication
