I just impulse bought a portable DVD player that works fine *except* the sound doesn't work, I took it completely apart and couldn't find anything noticable so I an wondering what my best options are for making use of it.

It has a video input mini jack and I did test the LCD when I had it apart (LCD and controller board only) and it displays the start-up screen fine (without DVD reader mech/front control panel/casing attached)

Has anyone done anything really cool with a portable DVD mini-jack video input.

That's awesome but I think my wife would finally have me commited.

I am more interested in your Infocus Moviemate retro-fit, how did you feed the signal from your X-Box etc into it?

okay Sub you have lost me its works fine but the sound doesnt work....... ok (does it have an earphone jack that might work) You really lost me as in "Has anyone done anything really cool with a portable DVD mini-jack video input." Just buy a connector and if the sound really doesnt work then hook up external speaks. This doesnt seem so difficult I must be missing something.

yup, you missed something. The sound chip on the mainboard is fried, no sound from speakers, no sound from headphone jack. The only use I can get out of this is is from video display whether I use the DVD player to play DVD's (with no sound, yay) or I can pipe in a video signal to the display via mini-jack input ...thus my question.

Is the only way to pipe one in thru composite to mini-jack....or is there some other way?

yeah looks like thats the case, but if you think about it it will be just like most projectors out there you gotta feed it video and get your sound elsewhere. I still really like my 7" pro just stick a dvd in and you are watching the movie within seconds no messy cords just the one to wall outlet. smile.gif

The speaker on the old 25" TV in my kids room went.
Now I have some adaptors to feed the audio output from the satelite receiver to some spare PC speakers.
Works great.

The player has a video input switch on the side. Couple that to something that looks like

which you can get here

Since both ends of the cables (xbox cable and video cable) are male, I used my a/v switcher to connect the two together. Of course, even with 234i image the resulting picture is still not that great

Did you incorperate speakers into the box or are you using the speakers from the PDVD? I have a small 2:1 setup that has the sub under my bed and the speakers behind our pillows....it sounds pretty freakin sweet. (BTW, this is from my other thread, not related to this 7" PDVD)

7" pro? what makes it a pro? I thought that meant using the pro triplet with a 550 fres.

I was just abbreviating projector for pro wink.gif "my bad" When I had it as a vertical I had more room to work with so I put computer speakers in the box, now that I have the proper fres. and made the box a horizontal I just use lil speaker thats built into the portable dvd player of course if I ever need more sound I can just pipe it out the heaphone jack and into a real stereo. laugh.gif

Has anyone taken a Ipod or Zune with a broken LCD and piped the video out to a larger LCD to make a video jukebox? I would love to make something like this for the kitchen....huge WAF points.

Are there any other of these type units (I know very little about MP3 players) that have a video out function that I could play with?
