Full Version: What about an Opa-Scope?

I have been lurking for some months now and am finally entering the light. My goal is to make a projector for a friend of mine who wants an outdoor "drive-in" theatre on his land. I will be distributing the sound with a stereo FM transmitter to everyones car radio or boombox and hoping to use a 1K lamp to project a 24 foot wide image.

I have an Opa-scope OHP and remember seeing some posts in the past by someone who was using one, but I can't find anything now. Has anyone used this thing? I am thinking about only using the FS mirror and the lens/focusing mechanism. The lens has a fairly large diameter 5" and has two lenses in the system (there may be a third in between somewhere). Is it a triplet?

The lens ring says Projection Optics Co. East Orange NJ 18" E.F. I am assuming that is 18" focal length because the distance to the projected object seems to be about that. Are there troubles with this lens? Can anyone direct me to discussions from people using the opa-scope? thanks

Welcome!

The only reference on the LL Forum that I came across regarding that OHP was this one: Monkaroni's Projector
Found using a Google search: site:lumenlab.com Opa scope OHP

Unfortunately, that user must have changed ISPs, as the images are no longer showing. You might want to PM Monkaroni and see if he can fix the links to the images. If he has his LL account set to notify him by e-mail when he receives PMs (if he still has the same e-mail address), he might fix it.

A lot of "ifs" there.

Good luck!
