Well for some time i have been wanting to build a projector and luck has been on my side and today I received a free 17" working lcd from a friend that had no use for it. For the time being I plan on using the standard optics(getting the big fresnels from another online store). Cost is an issue so I will be finding a magnetic ballast to use with the lamp to save money. I plan to incorporate a keystone correction mechanism to adjust for the verticle position of the projector. Also I will be including a device for easy focus as my idea is to use this as a portable outdoor theater.

Parts I have:
1. Working lcd from a Sony SDM-HS75
2. Cooling fans thanks to an unfinished project from my dad
3. Standard s15 triplet that I just bought from the trading post.

Right now I a home for the summer college student and broke so this is going to take a while for me to finish but I have never chronicled any project in the past and I have realized that it is so much easier to get help if i do. So today I start with pictures from the lcd disassembly.

Here is most of the left over crap from the monitor

Here is the lcd apart this was pretty much the first time I took apart something this delicate while it was still in good working order.

Here I put my desk lamp behind it to find out if its working, my brother has the laptop and I don't feel like pulling out my desktop to plug in the vga cable to test it to see if it is still fully working.

I plan on attempting the rag procedure to get the anti-glare coating off of this, I figure why not I got it free and haven't bought everything else yet.

Thats it so far so hopefully I can get everything together soon enough. I'm setting three-four weeks as my build time money permitting.

Sweet looks like you are on your way. Dont throw away the screen FRAME reuse it to hold the glass panel in it works so much better I tossed it in the trash on my first tear down bad thing to do. Sweet score on the panel especially since it doesnt have any FFC.

Thanks. Yea i was quite pleased that it was going to be easily usable when I finally got it apart. I kinda broke the frame that fit the lcd directly but its just one crack so I think i can fix it. Pulling a plastic frame from a metal one sucks. if it doesn't work I've already got drawings made on how i would build a new one.
