Hi, I am currently working on my new 15" strait through projector. Feel free to ask questions etc.

Parts list:
LL eballast
Usido bulb
15" stripped monitor
2 120mm case fans
LL frensels
LL basic triplet
Lexan
Various switches and wires
Ceramic base
Various focusing mechanisms
Refelctor from ikea
Kaleidoscope Color free front surface mirror
Total: $200 canadian

This is how i am going to mount my lexan and frensils. They will be hanging on rails inside the box. This allows for easy adjustment, once i get the adjusting i will fill in beside the lense to maximize light.

Rough mockup (real frensils)

Do you think this will work well? If not please say so, and suggest a better option

On friday i will start building the box.

Does anyone have and suggestions on how to mount my lcd useing this method?

Some Updates!

Built box, have not screwed in fron panel because i still need to mount the lense.

Some preliminary testing shots. Just wondering, when i place the lense where the frensils make a circle of light the projected image is pretty much the same as without the lense except i can see sort of see the lines from the frensils, the image is also sorta square. Is this good or bad?

I'm curious - Where will your projector be sitting?

If it's going to be completely perpendicular to the center of the projector screen, you should be fine. If you need to tilt the enclosure up or down, I think you're going to run into a problem with everything (fresnels and LCD) able to pivot at the top.
Canadianfreerider
i am scrapping the hanging design. It is just not that plausible. Going to mount them like the bottom picture.

Am currently viewing lumenlab from my projector. post-418-1138467226.gif post-418-1138501501.gif Will post up some pics later. Projector is about 65% done. Image is bright enough to view with tonnes of ambiant light.

Pictures!

Some preliminary screen shots, not very good at taking pictures, the projection wall is yellow and there is lots of ambient light.
Iron man actually looked amazing in 720p. Pictures do not at all represent acutaul image.

I still need to properly mount lens, cut top to to size, order another 120mm fan and 2 fan filters.

I really like that accordion triplet/focus mechanism!
Did you make that or did you cannibalize it from something else?
Canadianfreerider
I got it from a dude i purchased most of my parts from, it is pretty good, very smooth accurate focusing. The thing must be 50+ years old.

Got a little more work done,

Some more pics, Still pretty mock uped though.
On yellow wall, whites are not very good.

The nice part of the pic is onto a bed sheet like surface, it looks amazing in real life. Not blurry at all, still can't get the hang of taking pictures.

I see you posted that you have a 15" lcd in there... You know you are not really getting 720p??? You are close to it but not "720P"
JPD
Perhaps the focus mechanism came out of an old darkroom enlarger. I think it gives your project a touch of class .

Well done!

sdubb, the monitor was prestipped when i bought it, and there is no lable or anthing on the controls, i do belive that the seller said it was 1280x1024 resolution . I may be wrong though, and i don't really mind that much because it looks great.
JPD, I think you may be right, looks like it does come from a dark room enlarger.

sdubb
I dont think I have ever seen a 15" capable of 1280X1024. It probably is 1024X768 and yes it will look good, I really like my standard 15" but I cant wait to finish my 720P all inputs projector so I can say I really have 720P laugh.gif
Canadianfreerider
i think it may be this Monitor. More updates coming soon.
