For quite some time I'm pondering idea of 3LCD projector.

Reasons ?
  1. greater light output
  2. better efficiency
  3. less heat & noise
  4. nobody has done it before wink.gif

Of course it would be a beast of gargantuan proportions (one light engine with homogenizer, 2 dichroic mirrors, 3 LCDs & lots of optics) - but considering reasons above it's well worth trying.
I've covered most of high-level technical stuff, but feasibility of entire project is dependent on one component: monochromatic LCD panels.
One can find those in medical monitors - but they're insanely expensive.

So the question I ask is: Can we remove color filter from LCD panel ?.

If yes - we're on the green. So guys ( and gals cool.gif ) - start throwing ideas.

Yup, that confirms my findings. So, the only other option would be to use medical LCD panels.
Anyone out there who knows the source of (relatively) cheap 1920x1200 (or better) LCD monitors ?
