Will it work with my 10.6" Mst controller I have sitting here
johnzo1995

No

, the 10.9 has more pixels than the 10.6.

I assumed that.
It was more of a joke post because a lot of people ask if your controllers will work with other panels and I fuss at them for asking that

I'm interested, just a couple quick questions:
1. Are there any layers that will need to be removed from this (antiglare, etc), or is it bare like the 12.1"?
2. How does it compare to the 12.1 subjectively, as far as how transparent it is when you look through it, colors, etc when you compare them side by side?
3. Ignoring the 1.2" size difference, which one would you want to use in a projector?
Thanks

1. Bare, just like the 12.1.
2. Colors look much better than the 12.1 and 10.6.
3. This would be a perfect size for a projector, thats why the 10.6 was so popular, but this is 0.3 inch bigger.

Same controller as 10.6.
HDMI, VGA, Component, S-Video, Composite, TV-Tuner. 1080p, 720p, 480.
Same OSD as all the other MST controllers. The MST controller is very very good.
Comes with the remote.

Thats the same resolution as all of the 32" lcd tvs. The xbox 360 over VGA has a resolution that matches that exactly if anyone wants to know.

The good thing about this screen that it is (16:9) native so no streching.

Just one question is this going to be like the 10.6 as far as availability. I mean everybody was buying these and loving them. Then they ran short. Do you have any idea or a best guess on the availability down the road.

These will be around for awhile, I had the 10.6 for about 1.5 years.

I'm just about sold...
What's your dead/stuck pixel policy?
Does that $325 include everything I need to get up and running, or do I need to get a power supply?

The LCD are brand new, so no dead pixels. The power supply will be included.

is it supporting 1:1 scaling?
johnzo1995
May 16 2008, 06:35 PM
The native resloution of the panel is 16:9 so there is no streching. The MST controller does not support 1:1. I can get the PW controller for this panel, but that will jackup the price.

Do you have a spec sheet for this LCD? I was wondering the color support (how many shades it can handle) and the refresh rate. Thanks!
johnzo1995
Jun 5 2008, 12:36 AM
The contrast is 600:1, 256k colors, 25ms refresh.
I have side by side compared this lcd against the 10.6 samsung, and this kit has better colors/contrast. It is typical that toshiba lcd looks the best when comparing all four big lcd makers.

What is the physical height and width of this panel? (I'm sure there is a formula for this but I ain't no math wiz.)

Since 16:9 widescreen is 1:78 what does this setup do when a 2:35 widescreen or 4:3 full-screen format is played?
johnzo1995
Jul 24 2008, 04:12 AM
Let me find my picture for the demension of the LCD.
16:9 is OK, 4:3 is OK - there is a 4:3 setting. I never tried 2:35 widescreen.

For DVD or HD sources, they will have a 2.35:1 aspect ratio picture, however, the signal sent to the display is 1.78:1 -- the media has the black bars encoded into it.

Does that mean that it will be letterboxed or windowboxed?
Nevermind. I just realized that this would depend on the source DVD - if it was formatted for a widescreen TV, or not.

It's a great LCD guys. Totally unprompted plug here. Lets lots of light through, native 16:9 supports all kinds of different display modes as well as TV tuner and picture in picture. Highly recommended. My only complaint is the Coaxial spot is not the same as what we have in North America so I believe I'll need some kind of converter.

That's the MST Controller Board.
It's a European to F-type adapter available at Radio Shack.

Just got my panel and controller today... I was of the impression there was a power supply with it, but there is not... So... What voltage input does the controller require?

Contact johnzo and see if he supplies the Power Adapter. He may no longer supply it and forgot to post that.
If they're not included, you can either
buy one from him or buy one locally.
If he no longer sells them, you should be able to pick a
regulated 12V AC to DC power supply, 1300mA - 2000mA should be sufficient if you're using it in a projector (since we don't use the backlight). The center pin should be positive, I think. Confirm with johnzo.
If you've got any laptop power supplies laying around, see if they fit the bill.

Cheers for the info Quasi, I think I've found a suitable power supply... On a down note though, when I thought I was finally ready, I discovered a "physical" issue (panel) which looks set to unhinge a movie weekend

I have sent johnzo an email via the support link on manhatten lcd, hopefully we can get this problem sorted out

Hey!
I am awaiting my panel too...hopefully I wont have anything wrong with the panel. What exactly was wrong with your panel? Hopefully I'll receive mine next week. Today I built the enclosure so its just waiting for the lcd panel now. Hope you can get everything sorted out.

It arrived with a pretty nasty crack in it. I've had a fairly shocking run of luck getting my projector put together

I'm sure this won't be the first time a screen has been cracked in transit so I'd think johnzo will be able to get it sorted out. Outside of that, I plugged the panel in, shot some light through it, and the image quality is superb, you won't be disappointed with it. Terrible shame that the crack is causing lines to streak all the way across the screen, and a fat rainbow down one side, or I'd possibly live with it.

If the LCD arrived with a crack in it, why did you take it apart and shine light through it? Its going to be hard getting the insurance payed on it once it is taken apart.

Because, to be quite honest, I didn't check for it. Given I work with military aircraft electronics (including LCD's) on a daily basis I think I can be fairly confident I know how to handle them. It's very much now a could of, should of, would of, but didn't, situation. If you've checked the email which I sent 4 days ago to the manhattanlcd support address, you'd see it's not an immense one spanning 1/3 of the panel, it's limited to 1 corner, but because it covers an area which contacts 2 sides of the panel the effect carries across the whole thing. Perhaps I'd be better off lying about it being disassembled? Sad tbh if it gets to that. Anyway, check my email and get back to me.

just a quick question, does this LCD have the FFC that doesn't connect to anything on the side like the 10.6, or is there just the board and FFC's on the bottom? i.e. no connectors on the sides

The 10.9 does not have a FFC issue, the 10.9 is DIY friendly.
