Full Version: Sony Alpha DSLR-A700 3" display

Just curious if the display from the Sony Alpha DSLR-A700 might be a good candidate for a projector. It is a "3" XtraFine Clear Photo LCD monitor with 921K pixels". Assuming a 3x2 aspect ratio for photographs, that would make the display in the neighborhood of 1170x780 (just guessing). Any ideas if there might be a controller that would handle these and then there is the question of availability. The camera body is going on ebay for about $850. I wonder how many cameras will eventually use this display and if the price might come down in the near future. rolleyes.gif

After some searching (and measuring a picture on my screen with a tape measure), the sony screen seems to be 4:3 instead of 3:2. After looking around online, I would have to guess the resolution is 640x480 (multiplied by 3 for the red, green, and blue pixels, bringing it to 921,600).

From what I've read, the guys in Asia that make the controller boards for the 15.4's will make them for any LCD, it just costs a bit extra. Definitely an interesting idea, though you may be able to find a native widescreen 720p display from another device (around the same size) for around the same cost.

When I first replied to the original post, I somehow skipped over the part that said he was asking about a camera LCD. I thought he was originally talking about those photo frame LCDs and pointing to some posts about those. But then I re-read the original post. And took my foot out of my mouth.
