Ballast - Leke LL 400w
Lamps: 1.) EYE
2.) Home Depot 400w
3.) New LL T15 65k

So I've been using my LL projector for about 3-4 years now with great results. A few weeks ago my EYE lamp stopped firing up. It would just flicker and go out every time the ballast clicked. Wasn't sure what the issue was... went out to try the home depot bulb and it started up, yey! So the eye just flickers and home depot works, must be the bulb right?

Next I figure mine as well upgrade to the T15 for some potentially better lighting results. Put in the new lamp and to my disgust, does the same thing as the EYE, flickers once and never strikes.

Put the home depot bulb back in and first strike its off and going...

What gives???

Well, first off check that the contact at hte bottom of the mogul is making proper contact. That'll account for a great number of problems.

Which ballast is that, the older black one, or the newer red one?

My ballast (black) will often not fire the lamp at the first attempt. Annoying to say the least, but it does eventually get the job done. I find that if it's cold, the chances are greater that I'll be waiting a while for the lamp to strike.

Yep. I have experienced the exact same thing. When my bulb is cold it's much easier for the lamp to strike. I have the old one (black). I did order a new one(red), but it didn't work, so I had to send it back.

It's OK, but it's very annoying sometimes if you are testing/tweaking your projector.

Having the same problem with my LL bulb it is not even 4 weeks old; i think it is the contack tabe in the bulb that startes the bulb that is the problem; with most of the bulbs that don't strike. I see that if the bulb is cold enough the contacts in the bulb are closed and if they are a little bit apart it will not fire up. I can put it in the frizzer for 10 minutes and take it and put it in the base and it will fire up.

No, it's the nature of HID lamps. They MUST cool before they can restrike. When hot, the pressure in the arc tube is much higher, which in turn requires more power to strike an arc.
