I'm going to be building a small-scale CNC machine to get a TASTE and a little experience before BC's ridiculous apparatus is completed and ready for purchase.

I'm looking for some good, cost-effective recommendations for 3 step motors and a driver board. I'm unfamiliar at this point what the difference between unipolar, bipolar, 3,4,5,6,8,whatever-wire, etc., etc. is. So if you have any recommendations on what to go with and why, that would be tremendously helpful.

I also at this point, have a very hard time wrapping my head around the stages after the construction of the machine is complete. Like how do you get the machine to do what you need it to do - that stage. Any resources anyone could point me to regarding that would also be EXTREMELY helpful.

I am well-versed in CAD and computers in general - i just don't know how to get from point A to point B so-to-speak.

Thanks so much for your time. biggrin.gif

I have just started to look into cnc, so I don't know much, but this looks to be a good deal: http://www.8linx.com/cnc/online_store.htm

It is a 280 oz/in motor for $29

Thanks for the link. Cool that they sell motor mounts for their motors. I came across this site: http://www.hobbycnc.com

They sell motors and driver boards and kits... it's nice knowing the board will work with the kit, and it's 3 motor. The motors are kinda pricey though.

Think those nema motors from the 8linx site would work with the driver board from hobbycnc?
