Im just curious if those of you much more experience than I, would have any ideas to convert a PJ into a Full Golf Simulator, or at least a driving range Sim.

It Seems to me that if your PJ is hooked to a PC, it should be primarily a software issue.

If you go Driving range where u hit a real ball it could be simple, but what about playing a virtual course.

The most obvious hurdle is an input device for the club meeting the ball, but these do exist but I have never seen anything that i could buy cheap to convert a PJ.

Any Brilliant ideas out there?

Hi, there is a product called 'Golf launchpad' which may be suitable.

http://www.thecube.com.au/golflp.htm

The only potential problem could be getting in the way of the projected image. A ceiling mounted projector would not be a problem. By the way they are AU$399.

Also found this for the USA, US$229 (prelaunch price US$199):

That looks a pretty cool idea! I'll have to get one before my Dad comes to visit this summer. smile.gif

Hey, I note you are in Alaska. I suppose this would be a good idea if you wanted to 'play golf' all year round.

BlueDog, Nice work that is almost Exactly what i had in mind,

That will be such a cool addition to my projector and make golfing in winter possible.

Thanks For the Leg Work you rock!!

It's a good idea if I want to 'play golf' and not look like a complete idiot in public. biggrin.gif

Mate I can have a wee any time I mean holding one's tool thing in one's hand and waving it about isn't sport.

What we are talking about here is having a real golf club in your hand and hitting a ball. Not just prancing about in the living room. laugh.gif

That launchpad is actually available for less than half that price if you look around (at least it has been in Ohio).
Here's a link from Amazon:

Here's another option:

do you have duct tape down there , 100mph tape the wimote to golf club and prance around , a simulator isn't going to help your game , I know ,, I would rather not walk searching for my lost ball or send it to the water gods ,, if you find a good sim. keep posting here.

Mate that is a good sim that I have posted above. Golf Launchpad is the name and you use your own clubs to hit the ball.

Hi padstack, unfortunately Amazon will not send items like that to Australia. I would happily pay the $129 US for the item but that is their policy I don't know why.

I have a wii, and while it is definitely better than nothing, they havent got a good Golf game to actually Simulate the experience.

I agree that holding my own club is what i am after to actual feel like im playing golf,

Also I have noticed that they include swing analysis software with the launchpad and that could really help someones game.

And buy the tiger game to have some fun with it too.

And Please if anyone finds alternative ways to accomplish this i think we would all like to see it posted here.

You cant have too many options when u are trying to build something like this!

Thanks again everyone for all the input here there are definitely some great ideas coming.

FWIW, I picked up one of these and it's pretty true for a SIM. It reads my slices pretty closely as well as distance. Only thing it doesn't account for is topping and hitting too far under the ball. slice/draw is accurate though. Finishing up a psone projector now to do just this!

I am currently working on this project myself. I have purchased a sharp XG-NV5X from e-bay for $75. It is pretty dim though, more on that later. I figure the whole project to cost $1500 U.S. Here are some links to all of the items that I have figured I will need. First is the simulator. It is, from what I have learned, the best simulator for the money. I have seen these simulators on e-bay with a full functional course from $450-$1300. I figure to spend around $1000 on the high end.

Next is the video impact screen, which I figure to cost around $300 for a 10X10 screen.

Last is the netting I went on the cheap end here with the "Economy Golf Cage - Net Only" for $167.

I spent around $100 for my projector and I already have a laptop. All in all it tallies to around $1500. Let me know what you all think.

Also, does anyone have any ideas on a better projector solution for me. From what I can tell, mine is dying and a new bulb is anywhere from $450-$550. Any ideas would be appreciated.
