Looking for advice from someone knowledgeable about electronics and the components we use in our PJs...

LL sells a 5A circuit breaker for overcurrent protection in PJs. Is there any reason why a resettable fuse would not suffice? Does a non-zero tripped current cause problems for the ballasts and/or controller? I would like to try using a resettable fuse in series with an led (for indicating trip) instead of a circuit breaker if possible... cycle the power and the fuse is reset... no need for another switch/button here if a polyswitch does the trick, and nice red LED on the PJ will make it very clear what the problem is right away. will this work?

slightly different than the standard fuse... a resettable fuse works by greatly increasing the resistance when it heats up as a result of exceeding the trip current; the greatly increased resistance reduces the current to a trickle, but does not break the circuit (as a traditional fuse would). lastly, it does not need replacement when tripped... just cycle the power and it is back to low resistance again. I did a search here on LL before I posted on 'resettable fuse' (generic name) and 'polyfuse' (trade name) and no hits came up.

I ran across a couple PLOGs where they used the push-button fuses:

Here's goombaman suggesting the same thing to another member.

I think I'm going to do this, as well.

The best way is to use both in serial conection.
And the LED need to be in parallel with the fuse but using some current limitation for LED.

that is looking more and more like the best option... what I was talking about (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resettable_fuse) sounds good in theory, but require to long to increase resistance for our application (~10s for 5A)... used mainly for milliamp voltages, or protection of things that can take a bit of abuse before cutoff (e.g. appliance motors). no problem, circuit breakers are easy enough, and readily available (obviously).
