I have this amp

What would i need to do so that i can use it in the house?

apparently it pulls 100 amps so you would need one mother transformer

First, it looks like you will need a 13.8VDC power supply with enough current capacity to power your amp. 13.8V is the nominal voltage of a 12V lead-acid battery like in your car. Check out this one: http://www.mfjenterprises.com/products.php?prodid=MFJ-4245MV

It is rated at 45 amps. I see that your amp is rated at 600W total RMS. At 13.8V, 600W is 43.5 amps. So this power supply is too weak for full power from your amp. The reason is that your amp is not 100% efficient. If it were, it would not get hot under operation. Being generous, you probably need to find a 90 amp power supply to let your amp put out a full 600W RMS. That would say that your amp was 50% efficient at converting the DC power in to audio power out which may be optimistic. Having said all that, the 45 amp supply may be all you need unless you think you are going to run the amp near its limits most of the time. Note that the power output is with 2 ohm speakers (stereo) or a 4 ohm speaker (mono). If you use 4 ohm stereo speakers, then your max power out (RMS) will probably be on the oder of 150 to 200 watts per channel. Now the 45 amp power starts to look pretty close to working. If you use 8 ohm speakers, the max power drops roughly in half again. Now the 45 amp supply may even be overkill.

Second, the link says your amplifier has an 8V RMS input. By that it take it to mean that it requires an 8V RMS signal in, to get the amp to put out full rated power. Most audio preamps will have an output of somwhere around 1V to 3V RMS out which means you will need an intermediate amp to go between the preamp and your power amp. Some preamps will put out an undistorted 8V RMS so they could be used directly. You will have to read the specs to see which can and which can't. You might also use the speaker outputs of an A/V receiver to the inputs of your amp which should easily get to 8V RMS.

It would most likely be cost prohibitive and difficult to get an unmolested sound - not saying it can't be done, just that there is a better route to go when it comes to amplification.

If you want separates for your HT but don't want to break the bank, look for some used equipment designed for home environment. Audiogon.com is a place to look or even eBay.

Oh man I love audiogon.com!! videogon.com is another awesome place to go. In fact they are just about the same.

A car amplifier is a really hard way to go when making a home theater setup. I just had to explain this to a buddy of mine so I might as well point out the same points to you.:
-You already know about the amps needed to run it.
-cost
-sound quality
-no surround sound decoders
-no dedicated reciever for your components
blah blah blah, ect

IMHO, The best thing to do with that amp is to either sell it on ebay and buy a home theater reciever or use it in your car.

that is what i figured, i dont have it in hand yet, i was going to trade my old 27" TV for the amp and 2 12" rockford subs.

I guess i'll hang on to my TV

Thanks!

The subs would be relatively easy to use in your home environment, just not the amp.

do a web search for NAD. they are in england and build some of the best discrete home use amps out there. i have two that were given to me as payment for a side job.dont let the rms rating throw you.they surge at ten times rated output with out clipping!! i am using one to drive a remote 10" sub and it will rattle the windows. be ready, they cost a very pretty penny. hope this helps
