Hi guys,
I want to know if using a HOT MIRROR I can get away with any active cooling in my box at all?

Can I built a projector with no fans using these mirrors? Who already did it?

Hot Mirrors: These are special mirrors that reflect IR light and transmit visible light. Most of the heat that reaches the monitor is caused by the IR light being absorbed into the monitor itself. A few builders use them in their projectors. These tend to be pretty expensive but when used, you may be able to get away with not having any active cooling in your box at all.

Looks like it's just you and me dude. I seriously don't think anyone has done it but perhaps with a 250W or even lower wattage bulb it may be possible. Some folks are using CFL's but I think even they may be using active cooling. The lamps put out A LOT of heat so it's almost a must to use at least one fan. With care you'll hear almost no noise at all if that's your main objection. If you just wanna do it to do it then have at it.

With a 250 watt lamp you would not have to cool the LCD but you might have to cool the mirror, they are good to 450deg. Many PJ's have used then over the years to solve the heat problem and they give a smaller box with the extra fold.

I do have new a 4X5 hot mirror that I paid top dollar for that I want to sell some day. rolleyes.gif
