Schematic

So I have the circuit built, and I am pretty positive it is rightish. The problem is when I plug in the power, the visible led is constantly lit. IR signals from remote dont do anything and turning off all lights in my room don't do anything so it isnt stray IR. Is there something I could change? It seems that the frequency is not correct if the led is constantly lit. Sometimes, the led goes dimmer but it does not seem to be extremely regular.

I am sure the power coming in is the right amount and have checked several points with a dmm. There is more about this circuit at its source

I am doing this so my components can be inside my coffee table and still be remote controllable. Thanks for your help in advance!

looks like I will bring it in to the lab tomorrow after classes and check it out with the scope. Also I might have my 555 timer set to be used inverted when I dont need to be.

Why don’t you just extend three 3 wires connected to the IR receiver chip on the controller

its a tivo and possibly will be another component in the future. I would prefer to not void the warranty. Plus I enjoy this, I will be getting some help with it and let you know how it went. Thanks!
