I purchased several yards of blackout cloth with the intention of fabricating a screen. After I got the stuff, I noticed that one side is more canvas-like and one side is more rubbery feeling and smooth. Which side do you typically face towards the projection? Any advice would be apprciated.

Should be the rubbery side from what I understand. It's smooth and white on both sides I presume? I'd also guess the rubbery side is smoother.

Edit: Err, yeah. You basically said that.

Thanks guys. While I was at Joanne fabrics, they had a ton of variations of this stuff. Some was about a dollar more per yard etc. However, I did notice the colors on the "smooth" side varied from a dark tan color to a bright white. I got the bright white; however, has anyone else seen the various options of blackout cloth? And was the white the proper decision? I also noticed that the more expensive stuff seemed to have a smaller "screen door" pattern on the "canvas" side than the cheaper stuff....does this impact anything? Thanks again!

I've used blackout cloth outside ,, works great,, use shiny side ,, i have even used just a white material that looked just as good and could even go from reverse side if wanted ,but a little on dull side .. Although the price of screens now , the cheap ones are around 100 and by the time you factor in the wood and frame and etc , it probable prices out the same or close , that is why I went with tiger direct screen 110 on sale..

The best cost effective way is to use screen glu (or some varaint of this). However I use blackout cloath due to the price advantage (ca you go wrong with a $30 170" screen.
