All a dvd player really is is a power supply, dvd drive, and a decoder card. The first two shouldn't really be that difficult to get a hold of but the decoder may be a little bit tough. Check this site for some more info on decoders; you may be able to source them from another place because they only offer to sell them to manufacturers.

would be a fun project, but why not just spend the $49 and buy a store bought one?

unless you have an idea for using a custom one??!!?

Just make a small form factor PC with a mini ITX board or sommit and it can double up as a DIVX/XVID player.

i am going to make a small pc http://www.epiacenter.com/modules.php?name...intpage&artid=1 (i hope mine will be as small as that) but still looking for parts
the reason for a custom made dvd player is because i want to build a small cube with a dvd player and a playstation a gba (with tv out mod) and maby a snes and saga. i got the idea from techtv from Yoshi and his box (yoshis box) i also have his book with detals of it and i also like modding and also to impress my friends tongue.gif

if i wanted to look for a dvd decoder on ebay what keywords shall i use? I have tryed dvd decoder but it comes up wih loads of dvd pci cards.

please reply
thanks

What about cannibalizing a decoder from a broken DVD player??
magic_mat123
but if you get a faulty dvd player wouldnt it be the decoder thats not working? thats whats not functioning corectly witch makes it faulty?

please reply
thanks

I think if you look around you could be lucky. I think the most common cause of broken DVDs are borked drives or lasers. When you find one just take out the PSU and decoder card and bobs your uncle.
