Full Version: A Victorious WUXGA+ Projector!
Lumenlab > LLAVS: Lumenlab AVS > Projector Builder > PLOG, Your Project Logs
victorious
Well its about that time that i start my PLOG, been contemplating for a while now even though i have all my parts(lamp, lens etc...) and reason im going to make a plog is to ultimatly motivate me to impress you guys with my work and to actually keep me on the ball so here it goes yeah!.

Reason for building a projector:
- pretty much for the family room and i recently got a PS3 and have a bunch of BLU-Ray movies and yes they look awesome at 1080p, so i figured id take full advantage by building a WUXGA+ PJ.

I live in Sydney-Australia so ordering parts is a bit of a bitch in regards to shipping prices(try $150 just from LL itself!)- so i orderd 2 65k lamps in one order so if anything does happen during the build or first couple of months i have that extra assurance of another lamp and not spending another $60 on shipping-yes i know very smart you can buy my book on smart shoppers and how not to buy a dud product..!

Iv pretty much orderd and received the LL PJ kit.

65K lamp
e-Ballast
220&330mm fresnels
pro triplet
mogul
5amp breaker

and i orderd my LCD kit from johnnzo
15.4" WUXGA+ LCD
MST controller (HDCP).

Iv measured up all my parts and my brother in law (surveyer) helped me with the cad drawings so here it is my top design and measurements for my pj

It looks like you're planning on mounting the ballast pretty close to the bulb - I would mount it on the outside, since electronic ballasts don't like the added heat of the bulb, and it might make the ballast fail.

Your'e name isn't corny, well maybe, but it sure is cheesy laugh.gif

Or mount it in the front of the box, under the triplet?

Nice thinking inside the box and still out of sight and cool laugh.gif PUNishing ain't it laugh.gif

Great start on your plog victorious, I guess you will have to pull out your wallet again sadly. sad.gif
The pro len is a long throw 650mm FL and you have a 330mm fresnel as your field fressy, which makes me think you got the standard set of fresnels. But you should be able to get some correct ones from 3dlens . com for less shipping cost.

As for the corny nicknames it mandatory for DIYers laugh.gif

OH OH sorry guys i was supposed to post s15 triplet my bad blink.gif lol but hey it was a test and u past biggrin.gif but thanks for the heads up these things do happen!

lol hmmm yes the corny nicknames, not only is it mandatory but just brings out that extra nerdiness in all of us biggrin.gif

Oh ninhowfritz i was thinking of building a light box so it might not effect the ballast that much in saying that its still design stage so thanks for the comment and il have a think about where to mount it.

Quasi_mojo- that might work il have a think about it.

cheers guys

Ok bit of a delay in posting dry.gif but iv finally finished construction of my throw box, back, front and top are not on yet as so i can install all of my components etc...

I originally was intending on just making a proto box as you will see y in the photos(if not its because its pretty dirty wood) reason also being because i wanted to get physical final dimensions of what and how it would look. but after painting and finalizing i might just use it as my final product

so without further adu... ohmy.gif

This is of the box constructed(sides and bottom) blink.gif

Primer coat finished internal and exterally

The black paint is my high temperature spray paint (second and final coat), if you dont know y its because i DONT WANT MY BOX TO CATCH FIRE!!!???!!!.. but u would of already known that

Know some of you may have seen my asking whether or not to buy the attic fan controller from tescorp website, as im in australia shippings a real hassel and would of rather pick one up locally, i found a 240VAC $70 one from www.fernell.com.au(aus electronics website) but then went to Jaycar and picked up a self DIY temp switch or thermoswitch, i then had a couple of hours to kill between classes so my lecturer let me use our lab to solder my board together and heres the final product...im quite proud of myself biggrin.gif blink.gif

its 12VDC, and can handle temps of up to 245degrees Celcius! ph34r.gif

The four terminal strips on the right are 2 fan outs and have a NO(normally open) and NC(normally closed) output as well as the two com ports.

Anyone in aus you can pick one up for about $25 and its reasonably easy to make. wink.gif

Cheers mate

Is that black paint glossy or is that just the camera flash? I am not sure how big of a deal it is but that will reflect light and the point of the black is to absorb stray light.

haha yes i bit biased indeed blink.gif
but just hold on to your beloved xbox and wait and see the true power of cell processing- but lets not make this an overly overrated battle between xbox360vs ps3 owners/fanboys because we all know that ps3 will come out on top laugh.gif ohmy.gif haha

well for frame/mount i actually picked up some plastic channel tracks about 5mm wide from my hardware depot and just gonna pretty much size them up cut them up and well screw them up i mean in :S haha but its one possibility atm if it dosent work properly or dosent suit the setup right i will have custom aluminium u-frames made up and then try and figure out how to mount them biggrin.gif

Dont worry il have pics comming up of the track mounting...
