Hey everyone, I'm real excited... i get paid tomorrow, and i will finally have enough money to get started on my pj.

quick question before i start. Are the set of lenses that lumenlab sells in the store worth the $63, or should i just look elsewhere for them? i only ask because it took me 2 week to set $20 aside to afford the plans, so if i can get these lenses for cheaper, that would really help.
if they are cheaper else where, but not as usefull, i will probably still go with lumenlab's. so don't think i'm just some cheap ass, i'm just poor... biggrin.gif

thanks for the help...

watchout out for that ninja behind you........... ph34r.gif

If you read through the posts especially on the fresnel lenses I think you will find there is no real alternative to the Lumenlab Lenses.

true, but i believe the fresnels from OHP's might have different focal length's then the lumenlab's lens kit.

but yea, this would work i guess if your really short on cash.

mind you, your projected image will only be as good as your lens/parts.....

hey brain, i've been reading your forums for some time now and am very interested in building a projector. But you see i'm 17 years old and cash is a problem. I can however afford the plans, and i already have an lcd screen from an old laptop. But i do want to make sure i can use it before i spend the 20... i know nothing about how to wire it all up, or get a tv video signal to a screen which i dont even know where the connector is.. I know the plans or lengthy, i'm just skeptical when it comes to my money i guess, but i just wanted to know you would help me through just about everything before i buy the plans, for i know nothing. thanks

You might be able to use a laptop screen, but it takes IMO, alot more work than it's worth.

To use the laptop you have to keep the base with it as thats where the controller is - As far as video signal that would depend on the laptop - if it has a DVD player in it your good to go - if not you could try one of the cheap dazzle USB video products - However you are scraping 1 laptop and turning it into a TV. And if anything happens to the panel while your taking it apart then you've got real issues.

If your still determined to go forward I would see if you can get a cheap replacement panel for your laptop from ebay as a backup just in case.

But overall you would probably be cheaper to go with the standard PJ lens kit and find a cheap used 15' monitor - Pawn shops - Monitor repair shops - Mom and pop computer stores get them for trade ins etc..
