Full Version: DIY Speaker element sources

I was looking for just some plain old SPEAKERS. You know those things that you used to be able to buy at the local Radio Shack (No longer in existance here) or hobby store.

I just want to be able to find reasonably priced plain old single element speakers. Preferably ones that I can get again if I like them.

eBay seems to be my last recourse, except of course that you get a lot of ones that were pulled from something or other, and you may never find another of it's like ever again.

I just want to build a decent set of 5.1 speakers to go with my DIY amps.

I don't need any passive crossovers at all. Everything is to be actively crossed over before it gets to the amplifier stage.

So... Where would YOU look?

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question, but PartsExpress and Madisound have extensive inventories of parts for DIY speaker building. Many of their drivers have complete specs listed, and PE even has a great Project Showcase with detailed plans.

I second that motion. wink.gif

I have purchased parts from Madisound in the past and I have had excellent results.

PartsExpress has decent prices, but they carry more of a variety of audio parts, not just drivers.

Looks like they do now (perhaps that's what you meant?)

Madisound ships to Canada as well: http://www.madisound.com/ordering/shipping.php

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean.

I remember looking at Parts Express a while back. At the time I was looking for amp cases and heat sinks.

I've got those now, and am looking for a better solution for a few other things.

Anyway, it looks as though I'll be getting some Parts Express drivers. Funny that the ones that have the full specs advertised seem to be the less expensive ones.
