Hi all. Are there any dangers to look out for when making DIY LCD Pojectors other than the obvious electrical dangers? Is there any radiation shielding required? Do LCDS emit anything dangerous? If the liquid crystal display somehow breaks is there any danger there? Im thinking about constructing a cheap home theatre projector from a old OHP I have and have noticed when opening LCD's that there is alot of metal inside with no apparent purpose.

Cheers.

Well, you are dealing with things that can start fires.

Some (but not all) lamps emit dangerous levels of UV radiation, and you should take appropriate precautions when working on the projector. You will also want to be sure that you are not directly exposed to the lamp when the projector is operating. Negligible levels of UV will make it through the projector in it's normal state of operations.

And of, course, the huge projected image is extremely addictive. wink.gif
