I recently bought a Hitachi Ultrascan HD rptv, the model number is 51UWX20B. I bought it from a thrift store for $80, since its from a thrift store i didnt get any type of manual or booklet, and cant find it anywhere on the Hitachi website. Its not an old tv, it was made in 02' (i think), i just cant find it. Does anyone know what HD formats it supports? I know it does 1080i, what about 420p? i want to game on it big time. It already looks great with s-video, but...come on... who can argue with HD

One more question, this applyes to all rear projection crts, not just mine. Is there an after market screen that produces a better image than the factory screen? Im talking about in the darkest scenes of movies (using component conect.) you start to notice a screen door effect because of the high contrast grainy screen. Is there something like....tinted plexi-glass or something?

Iv thought about covering the tubes and spraypainting everything on the inside (not the mirror of course) with lamp black paint, so you cant see anything on the inside. Then getting a piece of plexi-glass that fits perfectly inside the grooves of the frame. So you will get a really smooth image result.

You need to diffuse the projection to get an image, so using plexiglass as your "screen" won't work, since its transparent. Think about it this way, why have a screen at all?

The fresnel that serves as the screen on most RPTVs is designed to maximize brightness/contrast at the expense of viewing angles. You could potentially get a better diffuser but it would cost you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. You're best off leaving the case intact and sticking with what you have.
