That's an OLED screen. I thought that OLEDs are self illuminating. If that's so, I don't think you would be able to send light through it, because the Organic L.E.D.s are printed onto a plastic sheet or film, like ink on paper. Unlike an LCD which is a clear glass panel.

I think you're right. I can't say for certain that OLED is completely opaque, but I do know that they create their own light and therefor don't need a backlight. This would suggest that the manufacturers wouldn't design them to be transparent.
480p, whether it's HD or SD probably isn't worth using to make a DIY projector IMO (unless you build it a purely a hobby). I bet the display costs... at-least $400 or so.
