Interesting, but at 60lumens/watt it's less efficient than metal halide lamps, so you'd need some clever optics for it to provide any real advantage (apart from longer life and instant on/restart).

The one advantage that LED does have is that it's directed light. This means that you don't have to deal with as much off-axis light as you do with a MH or other type of lamp. This can triple or even quadruple the amount of lux at the LCD for the total lumens created.

The link is not working for me. It wants a password.

What's the price? What's the output?

Anyhow, a 30mmX30mm led might be used with the same optics as a typical MH setup. Use collimator and collecting fresnels. If the led puts out enough lumens I can't see why it wouldn't perform like a typical MH lamp with a 30mm arclength.

I guess one possible problem is if the output angle is too narrow it won't hit the collimating fresnel at the right angle.

The link works for me, maybe try it again?

It says "the unit reaches efficacy of 60 lumen/watt and higher" so lets say "and higher" means 70 or less, so less than 7000 lumens. These things are usually more expensive in terms of lumens per dollar than other LEDs, I'd guess they're about $150.

It doesn't have any primary optics, so I would imagine the output angle would be usable, especially since you could put lenses very close to it without much worry about heat.

I emailed edison-opto about buying these directly from them (group buy maybe?), but they sent me back a form to fill out as if im a company. I could pretend to be a company, lol. I just wanna see how much they are going to charge for them. By the way, on edison's web site it says they are 3,000 lumens (thier website only has the 50watt version, not the 100w) - http://www.edison-opto.com.tw/products_det...y=1&cno=111

I can get those LED's If anybody wants them.

Johnzo,
I might have an interest in these, but haven't found a supplier yet. Do you have a price on them?

I also would be interested in these leds depending on price.

likewise. Interest is price-dependent, of course smile.gif ....

I found it at 210$, one single piece. Argh!

Guys over at AVS forums are doing some reviews on some LED projectors and speaking to some of the guys from phlatlight (for possiblt retrofitting high power LED's into their projectors)

Anyways, a single white LED can produce 4000 lumens, price $120. Like Supra said above though, there's no off axis light, 4000 lumens is actually quite a fair amount if it all makes it through a LCD. A 100w UHP commercial projector lamp produces about 8000 lumens (i think...), so a 4000 lumen LED could prove very surprising

Also, here is a link to a 50 lumen LED projector, also from AVS

not bad at all for 50 lumens, but remeber screen size is only about 72-80"
