Hi guys,
I am looking for a source for 6" or 8" drawer slides. I don't know if they even exist. The smallest I have found are 10". Anyway, I thought I would ask.
Any leads would be very helpful.

These are pretty much perfect, and are pretty cheap.

ArchibaldTuttle,
fantastic - you helped me out alot. biggrin.gif

ricoks, yes I am going to use them for the focus box. Still working out the light leak issue and my plan of attack. I need to get the parts in hand to really see what I can do with them.

I'm using a double (or triple) layer of felt on the front of my box for a movable lens assemble, this should block all the light leakage but still give flexability of travel. have a look at my plog Dave's Joinery Project/or might help you with some ideas.

I was thinking about routing groves to mount the drawer slides on....

It would look something like this:

Comments/suggestions? I think this should minimize any light leaks...

if you routered blind grooves that stop before they break thru on the adjustment box front (if you know what i mean) and if the grooves on the projector were blind on the inside end (opposite end of the other blind grooves) you should get no light leakage at all. Not a great deal more work to do, just clamp a stop for the router when cutting the grooves. but the results could pay off big time. would look a lot neater by not showing the grooves until you slid the box right out too.
try testing it out first on a couple of pieces of scrap first to get all your cut depth/width right before commiting to the projector cutting.

Hey moose - if you didn't want to order them & would rather just pick some up, I've seen then at Woodcraft Stores - I'm in Central IL & mine carries 6" slides.

Thanks guy's for your help.
I have decided to go a completly different direction with the focus box. It is top secret for now, or atleast untill the first are built. biggrin.gif
Once the prototype is made i will show it off.
