Okay here is the situation I have a Sharp Aquos LCDTV that has all the standard inputs except VGA I would like to hook my computer up to it for various reasons games HTPC for DVD mostly I do have DVI on the tower and HDMI on the TV so I know i could go this route and then go audio out headpone jack to inputs on the TV I know how to get it all hooked up but I have read about "BE CAREFUL WHEN HOOKING UP A PC" I beleive this has to do with refresh rates and resolutions and what not and that it can permanetly damage your TV what do I need to know before attempting this so I dont do any damage to the TV.

As far as I know, and I have hooked up several different computers to many different tvs, there should be no problem, you will not damage your tv. That said, hooking up an ordinary pc to a tv can be notoriously frustrating. Every time I have tried to hookup the pc I'm working on now to a tv the image has been shrunk to less than the size of the tv screen. My belief is that the tv's resolution is not definable to the pc, so it goes with closest resolution it can assume, to the native res of the tv. Are you running a media center program on the computer, and does it have a dedicated graphics card?

What you should be aiming for is TV resolutions i.e 480i/p 576i/p (pal, ntcs) 720p 1080i and 1080p... Most lcd monitors dont really like these resolutions as some ar 4:3 and 16:9 unless it is a 16:9 lcd. In saying that you should set your resolution best to 1280x720 or 1920x 1080 and depending on your source - which i belive is not FUllHD(1080p or 1080i) i belive that 720p will be your best picture setting play around with this and you should be fine.
