Ok this will b my official plog. i finally took the plunge today. All my parts are in and a couple i can pick up as i build.

today i stripped the dell 15 1506fpb and it stripped down pretty quick.. only question is i reused the plastic and metal frame and i guess i will use this to try and put some wood frame around and mount it

here it is

heres the frame im talkin about, does this look ok?

here is the bottom of the lcd panel

heres the wires that run to the control board, also the power board connects to that black connector and its pretty big circuit board, then the power plug plugs into it, notice also my buttons i had to cut part of the front frame of panel and somehow goin to have to mount this somewhere to use the buttons

box being built, i used the standard lumenlab 15 plans and gave myself a little more breathing room

here it is mocked up, its 30 inches long, 13 inches tall and 14 inches wide

and here is my sun....... yea its only a 250 watt but it was free and will hold me over till i upgrade with a 400 watt

more pics soon, i spent today trying to figure out how to mount my lcd, and fresnels with the allowed space on bottom for the ffc to sit, and on back fresnel for air to pass under all with in the tiny spaces alotted. i dont have a router so this is gettin a little tuff.

also i had measured my inside dimension to b 14inches just like the original plans... but me like a dummy when cutting cut towards the center both times so now im looking at 13 and 3/4 lol... i am a great electrician but woodworking so far is totally beyond me......... everytime i look at peoples plogs im blown away by the ingenuity and designs...... ill b lucky if this thing holds together haha

Looks good so far man. Don't sweat the bad measurements, everybody makes mistakes, especially on the first build. The beauty of wrong measurements is that you can be forced to get creative tongue.gif

well more pics to come...... some good news and bad news.....

i installed the fres,s used the gravity keystone on the front one. managed to mounth the lcd frame with some small L brackets from home depot since i dont have a router to make slots. Everything came out great, wired up the fan, lights etc etc and fired her up......... i had a 120 diagnol white square with a little hot spot and some screen door action, now i can already tell my 250watt is not goin to b enough, but its all good.

as for the bad news, i turned on the lcd and i have red green lines and about 3 inches of the top of the lcd across horizontally is BLACK lol.......... im hoping this is not an ffc issued b/c i was very careful and the side ffc are still tucked away in the frame like they originally where...

also when screen is turned on my big white square goes to very very dim on the wall.... 400watt here i come

pics later
