Hello all fellow DIY dabblers,
I have been researching for months now and have accumulated the majority of my parts to start my first projector. My hope is for completion by super bowl sunday for a sweet unvailing.
One thing that I am still boggled by is what video scaler/tv box to get. As mentioned I have the Samsung Syncmaster 512n and would be using the projector mostly for back yard movies which I plan on playing from my laptop. Otherwise I would love to play my xbox on the projector and most definetely want to be able to play the super bowl game.
Can anyone please offer suggestions, I am willing to spend around a $100 bucks but the cheaper the better.
If anyone could direct me to a link for stripping the 512n it would also be much obliged!
Thanks all and I will be posting my progress soon!

Thanks for the reply...In the mean time I got too anxious and picked something up off of ebay for about $120 after shipping. It is the CVP CM-345TP Multimedia Scaler Box. So far it seems like a good product but time will tell. Once I finish my build and get things going I will post a review on the box.

Here is the link for the one I picked up and the site has most of the specifics:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250207677797&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores&refitem=260200456021&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget
Says the input video signals can be scaled up to 1024x768 Pixels, which is equal to the 512n, figured I try it.
I am a little behind on testing it out but will have comments on usability and quality within the next couple weeks.

Got it going tonight and so far so good. Easy straight forward menus and opertating proceedure. Component in looked good and same with S-Video. I had problems with YCbCr and have not gotten it to work yet. Audio out is farely minimal and I will most likely bypass the projector to handle audio.
