Full Version: Suitable Lighting Equipment?

I can get one of these for pretty cheap with everything needed to run it(ballast etc)

Its rated at 150watt with pure white lighting. Would it be suitable for a projector or will the brightness
be insufficient?

Does anyone else here run their projector off 150watt MH globe? I think it will be good because there
will be significantly less heat emitted from a 150 watt globe and the lighting should still be adequate.

I may be wrong though. Any info would be great.

on what screen you want it to run?
Sarge
Just a cheap 15" LCD. As for the screen that i want to display it on, it will probably just be my wall or a matt white surface i will make later on.

the picture will be dark i think

Is there any printing on the bulb? Do you have any specs?
Could you show a close-up of the label on the ballast?

Not necessarily. All depends on the specs of the bulb, how well it is optimized, how dark you can keep your viewing environment, and how much gain your screen has. About a year ago, 150w ceramic lamps were all the rage here at LL and quite a few builders achieved pretty awesome results with them.

I dont have any specifications except for this.

Ceiling flush mount

Tilt adjustable 0 to 30 degrees

Globes: Nelson - 150W NDL.

UV Filter - 002 Glass

Colour: white

Dimensions: (L) 230mm, (W) 140mm, (Depth –into ceiling) 120mm

Control Gear - Nelson NRB 150MH Class 1 Kit For High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide Lamps.

Lamp unit plugs into control unit with a 3 pin plug with a round earth pin.
Its an eBay auction and the seller offered to me for $50 AUD.

I think for $50 it ok. If i buy it and cant use it i can use it outside as an outdoor lamp or
as my workstation lamp. I will probably buy it and il post up the complete specs here.

Are these kinds of globes hard to find? Are they expensive?

Just a quick note, in case you haven't already... it is very worth looking for highbay lights... I got one from eBay for $20 and with a little bit of effort manage to salvage from it the whole kit... ie Ballast, Mogul Base and 400W MH Lamp. So certainly try the one you are after... but also if you want something with a bit more kick you may be able to pick up a HighBay light nice and cheap sometime also. wink.gif Either way... good luck!

OMG i missed out on the auction. There was a local auction going on and COMPLETE HIGHBAY LIGHT KITS SOLD FOR 4 DOLLARS!!! They looked really huge and bulky and i thought they would be useless for the task.

The lamp and ballast you have should work fine. The NDL in the lamp specks says it's a Daylight lamp and should be 4000K or 5000K color temp so should work fine.

Use a condenser lens with a FL of around 6" to 7" and It will be fairly bright..
