ohnoes.gif
I m finally starting my plog .BIG thanks to Durancko [That's Durachko. sad.gif dry.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif Yep, he's in BIG trouble since I helped him.], he gave me so much informations and a LOT of time ... sorry for that ... Very very good person by the way! wink.gif
So here I am now!
I think I m a little to early to start a plog, but as I ordered everything, it should be here at the begining of next week and I m so nervous that I had to start it right now ... And I'll start it all next week!
I ordered:
220mm and 650mm fresnel from OptoLife for 26$
500mm triplet from Optoplife 70$
Hot mirror 113x138x3mm (UV filter) from optolife 11.90$
All that cost 75$ for the shipping fees. (yes, the shipping cost is higher then the triplet it self... blink.gif )
Johnzo 15.4" kit ( MST controller with toshiba panel)
I found a FS mirror from a blown RPTV.
I have a lot of presswood at home
I will need a good Light source (lamp and ballast).
I have a limited budget, and I still have to order ascreen because I dont have enought room to paint a wall...
I can probably go up to 150$ for a light source, but I m very restricted !
For the moment, I have a big old 27" that my grand mother gave me and it is dying so any light source will do better then what I have now! I would like to have something very good as I think I really ordered some good stuff, but I am running out of money!
So I will post all the picture as soon as I receive all the stuff, and take a lot of picture while doing the project !
I hope it is gonna be fast, but I really wanna take my time, specifically while stripping the LCD...

biggrin.gif huh.gif ohnoes.gif
I'll take my time tongue.gif Don't wanna screw up my LCD as ChristmasGT did 3 times sad.gif

By the way, I am french, I know I probably did a lot of mistakes ! but I really did my best smile.gif

Thank you so much to everyone and lumenlab for that forum biggrin.gif

HAHA.. I probably did not see your name enought time in my PM box. tongue.gif

Sorry about that huh.gif
Durachko
Just don't make the same mistake twice or we'll require that you change your username from "genius" to something else. tongue.gif
GeniuS312
Please don't ...That makes me feel like something I am not! wink.gif

by the way, here is a datasheet of the UV filter :

I hope it will not get yellowish after a year or two!

Edit: Alright ! I cannot add a picture from a FTP site... well it does not work now sad.gif
Edit2: I guess it works that way tongue.gif

A lot easier to post lot of pictures wink.gif

Ebay stuff
Is this thing a good Idea as it already has a hot mirror, a reflector, and it is a 400W MH bulb ?!?!
BigIg
The bulb probably is not very white in color.

Ho, yeah, you a probably right ! it s not writen anywhere !!
Probably have like, 4000k ...

Just a question for you all, as my fresnel will be 220mm for F1 and 650mm for F2 ...I guess we can exactly know what will be the lenght of the box?

because someone told me that my box will be around 95cm and even more! (95 cm = 37.4 in)
?!?!?
From what I understood, my fresnel are 220 and 650mm.
so from the middle of my lamp and the 220mm fresnel, I will have 22cm, than the LCD, second fresnel, and 650mm (65cm) before the triplet!
So 22+65cm = 87cm + between both fresnel (don't know yet) + before the lamp (around 10cm).
1 meter for the lenth of the box !
Am I right ? I really should have bought a 550mm instead of the 650mm .. would be better match with the triplet and 10cm smaller sad.gif
Thank you
GeniuS312
... I just call a local store called Pro-Ballast and the has a good bulb perfect for our build ... only 4000K !! WAOW blink.gif
He only has one at 5000k and it is 100$ for the bulb ! Not cheap at all !

So I m still looking for a cheap good light source!
GeniuS312
I received all the lenses from optolife ... order on thursday last week from china, received on monday in canada this week blink.gif That is fast !!
And I also start a "picture hosting" on my computer so if anyone want to post so pictures, send me the picture are genius0@sympatico.ca with your lumenlab nickname and the picture and I will send you the link smile.gif

So here it is :
This is the UV filter spec:

The triplet and the small UV filter:

Triplet in my hand:

Triplet on CD case (I know, they are all out of focus but it was very dark in my place...)

The UV filter fits directly on the CD case, just a LITTLE smaller on the top...

Should receive the LCD and controller from johnzo today smile.gif
GeniuS312
Here is the 220mm fresnel

And the 650mm fresnel tested with a little photo smile.gif That s very neat biggrin.gif

Total by now:
LCD with controller from johnzo $455
shipping cost = 15$
UV filter (113x138x3mm)from Optolife $11.90
Fresnels:
431x406x2mm-f220mm from Optolife : $13.00
431x406x2mm-f650mm from Optolife : $13.00
Triplet 500mm from Optolife = $70
Shipping cost from Optolife = 75$

Total = $652.9

Light source + 100" screen are still missing! sad.gif
GeniuS312
I don't know where to post it, but I found something that would be nice for our build (I guess).
Kworld stuff
I won't need it as I bought a controller for my LCD, but if you use a normal PC LCD screen, and you want more than only the VGA port, this is want youo need !
It has a builtin tv-tunner, all the plugs needed, etc !
And they have a lot of usefull stuff too !

Martin L.

Edit: Sorry, already on this forum
GeniuS312
I think they have some pretty nice lamp their: venturelighting.
and they have complete spec sheet for all their bulb!
Like this one seams pretty good:
Bulb SpecSheet

Can you help me choose the right bulb ?
The link I sent is a 150W 6500K color temp with 15mm arc size, but only 11250 lumens .. but as the arc size is very very small... is it good or not ? Probably not enought (150W).. but I really needs help on that !
I ordered what I think was the best in LCD, controller, fresnels, triplet... and I need some good hint for the light please !

Please help me choice the right bulb!
It will be around 140$ for the ballast, bulb, capacitor, mogule base and a custom reflector !

Thanks a lot !

I still have to find one near montreal. It must exists, but I didn't find any. I went through lumenlab and my friend went through bulbsandballast.com.

I'll stay tuned!

I will let you know if I find something near our place smile.gif
Well I found one but it cost a LOT !
GeniuS312
I received the LCD from johnzo1995 (thank you so much smile.gif ) and it works very well!
I do not have any device that support hdcp or even 1080p to test the controller, but by pluging my computer with component, I only had 1080i available ... my graphique card is a Geforce 6600gt and it does not support gdcp .. that s probably why !!
Wel annyway, here are the pictures:
Here is the controller very well packed:

Here is the LCD VERY well packed, you can throw the box anywhere and the LCD will stay good ( I didn't try, but it is very well packed tongue.gif )

GeniuS312
and here is the plans of my project :
The red lines are exactly the same length, do you think I can fix the fresnels and the LCD all together, or I will have to move them back and foward individualy ?

But There is a weird problem, not very important but I wonder why it s doing that in PIP mode !!

Ok that it s little weird, but now the big question is, have you tried the pip with any other sources eg. a dvd player and check to see if it does it with that as well?
GeniuS312
No, in fact, I used normal RCA cable (yellow white red) and used them as the component (blue green red).
So I thought it was the problem .. but then I though the problem would be the same in any position, not only on bottom right et top right !!
It's not a problem I would need to replace the controller for .. I can work with it !
I was just wondering if it is really a problem or not !

Still no news from him!

I am trying to find a reseller for the OSRAM bulb!
ArizonaVideo explained me how this lamp would be perfect :
As it is a ciramic based bulb ( HCI instead of HQI for Quartz), its color rendering index is very high ( 98 CRI ), 250W so it won't heat to much, 12 000H lifetime, it looks to be a very good bulb !
Ok it s only a 4200K, but as ArizonaVideo explained me again, we can tweak our color with the LCD controller so that the color will be similar to a 6000K. It is a little too warm (4200K) because there is too much red, remove some red from the controller and then you have a perfect white !
BIG thanks to ArizonaVideo and all his tests in lighting !! Very usefull for everyone here !

So I m waiting for a price, I called 2 local stores here that sells OSRAM bulb, I hope it won't be very expensive smile.gif
I'll keep you posted !

I can't tell !
I only tried the yellow AV RCA cable with the RGB component together ! and it worked but with the issue listed above!
GeniuS312
Well, here is the answer I got from Carolyn Thomson , Customer Service Representative from OSRAM SYLVANIA LTD/LTÉE :

"HCI-TS 250W is a product that originates from OSRAM Germany. OSRAM is our parent company and we import some products to Canada, but unfortunately, the 250-watt version is no longer available; it has been discontinued. We only have 70-watt and 150-watt of these bulbs.

Please contact the equipment manufacturer (OEM) for replacement or suggested suppliers."

Damnit !!
I keep searching but .. still no go sad.gif
GeniuS312
Wooaaaa they are so hard to find !!
I think I ll go with the 150W or the same as elken2004 used that looks very nice in day light !

For the LCD/controller, the PIP issue is normal, it seams that they all do the same !
I tested the HDMI connector with BlueRay and it works perfectly biggrin.gif

So... only the light is still missing, and I can't wait to find it sad.gif

Hey there

there's a guy selling a 15 standard kit with 3 lamps. Might want to give him a buzz (read : Cheap light)

cheers
GeniuS312
Martin A.G. sent me a ling for a light box : ManHattan
I guess I ll go with it, and with the Powerball HCI 150W, while the 250W is still not available....
With a good light box, 150W should be enought !! I hope so !
I'll finaly start the project as soon as I receive this light box !!

While the reflector and lamp holder will work, the condenser will not. If you can find another source for the lamp socket I would pick up a LL pro reflector and save some money.

What do you mean there ?
The condensor will not work because I use a 15.4" LCD panel ? or the condensor will not fit with the 250W bulb ?
Thank you !

I will add all the other pictures later, I just want that to be fix right now sad.gif

-190mm from the middle of the arc (bulb) to the first fresnel,
-12mm from F1 to F2
-12mm from F2 the LCD
-680mm from F2 to Triplet

f1=220mm
f2=650mm
triplet=500mm Focal lenght

Well .. it s only for the try smile.gif

You need to illuminate the entire LCD. Remove that board with the rectangular opening. I'm not sure why you have it there. Also, I recommend frames for the fresnels to keep them rigid. It gets warm in there and the plastic will respond to any flexing forces resulting in a distoted image.
GeniuS312
I noticed that the fresnels are not completly straight, but have a little wave in them !
That will cause the image to be like what I get now ?
even in a frame, they will wave if they have too ! no ?

It seems like the distance between F2 and the triplet is off. Checking the focal calculator, I get 571mm from the LCD to the triplet, so if you want to measure from F2 to the triplet add the 12mm gap so it should be 583mm from F2 to the triplet. This calculation is assuming an average 108" screen size. Do you know what your screen size will be? Also I just noticed that from your arc to F1 is 190mm, shouldn't it be the focal length of F1 so 220mm? I know this is right for a split configuration, not sure if its the same for unsplit, never tried.

Hope this helps

Edit: Heres what I got from the focal calculator.

Thanks a lot guys !!

I doubled check with the fical calculator, I my calc was completly wrong !!
Here we go!! a picture smile.gif

I ll have to reverse my LCD now .. I ll add a mirroir !
Still don't know how I will do that since my fresnel are 1cm far from the lcd ... the little controler attached to the LCD will be at the wrong place sad.gif

Well Anyway .. the best part works biggrin.gif
For the testing purpuse, I moved the triplet to 1121mm far from the LCD to get a 12" screen tongue.gif

Tkx Again !

Cold Steel
With the heat associated with the lamp you'll need to make sure your air pathway will go up and around each component. Also the heat will warp your fresnels. Make sure you have them mounted in a frame and not hanging loose.
Oh so close but yet so far. smile.gif
btw.look'n good.
GeniuS312
Here's before adjustement and after adjustment smile.gif
We can see that all the corners look pretty clear !!
Well.. praticly as clear as the middle biggrin.gif

Need to add a reflector and pre-con, but I am very impressed for a 250W HQI smile.gif

BIG HUGE TKX to arizonavideo that helped me a LOT on my lamp/ballast choice !
Next step will be to know what is the best pre-con for what I have smile.gif
GeniuS312
Dark and sunny projection :
GeniuS312
You think I really need sockets for the fresnels ?
it does the job and with the UV filter .. I guess the fresnel won't get very hot !!
That s going to be my only TV, but I have no idea how to make frames so small .. with 2 bolts as I m set right now, distance between Fresnels is 1cm .. if I add a frame, the distance will be doubled !

Any idea if it will be OK or I Really should add frames ?

Tkx a lot smile.gif
GeniuS312
2 other question ...
Is this the controller's sensor ?
so I can cut it, and extend it somewhere out of the box ?

And, is there any easy way to extend the cable that goes from LCD to controller ?
the controller will have to be far away from the Panel and IDE cable does not fit in the actual pin !

Tkx !
