Hey everyones! We just got our 10.6 w/MST from johnzo. THANKS A MILLION btw.

Keeping in mind we want to do an AG removal, we would like some advice:

What have been common mistakes people have done while caring for these panels. What have you done wrong that caused big problems with LCD's in general, and what tips can be used to prevent it and other follies? ohnoes.gif

I broke my first 10.6 panel, but unfortunately I'm not exactly sure how. Might have had something to do with disconnecting the controller cable too many times at the LCD -- that connector is fairly delicate and you have to exert some degree of pressure on the ffcs to disconnect it -- so one piece of advice would be to disconnect and connect it at the controller board instead (leaving the wire attached to the panel).

Also, off the top of my head

-- Use a regulated power supply of at least 1500 mA

-- If you do a water soak to strip mirror or AG layers, make sure you let it dry completely before you hook it up and test again.

lots more tips and complete stripping guides are linked in the thread below.

Reinforce the FFCs! They're super delicate.

We went out and got some silicone II today for ffc reinforcement. Our panel seems very shiny on the front, and not really matte, what is the safest way to determine if there is any AG layer?

I think you just did it by looking.
If it had an AG, then it wouldn't be 'very shiny' it would be a dull sheen.
Technically the 'shiny' you see is what Anti Glare is intended to reduce.

We are certainly relieved to hear that. Good to know we just need to strip out the backlight and the rear reflective sheets!

Make sure you don't take too many layers off. I took off the polarizer completely on one side and partially on the other side before realizing I'd messed up.

It's not the end of the world, just a lot of hassle because I now have to buy a new polarizer filter sheet to stick on.

Have a look at my strip video. It might help. (The link is in my sig)

Does johnzo still sell the 10.6 lcd? I didn't see any on his site!

If not, where's the best place to get one?

No they are out of production. He might still supply the Mst controller programmed for it with the proper Lvds cable though. then you could just buy the Lcd off Ebay where several vendors have some for $250 shipped.
