Okay I do understand resolution for the most part but the part I am getting confused is .......

Examples.....

1. I see the lilliput can go to 1024X768 but this would only be via computer correct you cant get that high via composite or s-video

2. Haspree I believe does 800X600 but you can only feed it with composite or s-video so you will only get like 480I I think when that res it 480P....

3. some of the lcdtv and 15" monitors pretty much all have 1024X768 since they are just shy of 720P are you really only getting 480P out of them or something better via component or what not.

Somebody please explain it just seems that you would have to use at least component or VGA to get what you really want.

There are two resolutions to consider and many find this confusing and the marketing folks seem to like it that way.

The "native" resolution is how many horizontal and vertical pixels there are 15" LCDs are almost always 1024x768, 17"+19" are almost always 1280x1024. There is also a 15.1" that is 1280x800 and a 15.4" that is 1920x1200 (these are both laptop LCDs).

The second resolution is the input or compatible resolution which is the highest resolution signal that the LCD can accept it will display the image but the image can only be at the native resolution. For example a 15" monitor has a native res or 1024x768 but will display images when connected to 1280x1024, the display scales the 1280x1024 image down to 1024x768 and displays that.

Lilliputs 7"+8" are ussually 800x480 displays (there are also 640x480 panels)

Hanspree as I understand it uses a 800x600 LCD but only support regular TV signals (composite or s-video) which are 640x480 interlaced (480i)

With a 1024x768 15" LCD TV that accepts 720p (1280x720) it scales the 1280x720 to 1024x614 and displays it on the 1024x768. This will look much better than 480i (640x480 interlaced) but is not quite upto the full 720p.

If the display only supports composite and s-video you can never get anything better that 640x480. Upscaling doesn't have any information to extend the image only strech it out. Downscaling from a higher resolution does have extra info so it will look better. To use 720, 1080i/p you need VGA, DVI, component or HDMI (DVI+audio+HDCP(encryption)

Okay so that pretty much answers my question. Just as I suspected I dont really want to use a computer but would if I had to so the lilliput and the hanspree will do nothing for me since I they only have s-video and composite just seems like wasted resolution since you are only going to get 480i out of them. So I am still tryig to find that cheap way to get 480P via component I guess teh best way is use the VGA and get one of those k-world devices or what not. Thanks.

If you don't want to use a computer, can't you get a 1024x768 LCD TV (like the magnavox 15mf605t)? it will take a 720p or 1080i signal, and of course downscale it, but you should still get 1024x768ish from it via component. unless i'm missing something of course... dry.gif

Yeah I have looked and looked at getting that TV to many times have read all the post about how nice they are stripping and AG (thanks for those post Aerosoul22) seems like the only option to go with well of course besides the 10.6 I am just a cheapskate I guess. I want the projector outta my face so a longer throw everything is give and take spend the extra for the pro fres and pro triplet price adds up or just get the 10.6 with standard price adds up smile.gif oh well seems like the evo is probbaly the best option as far as the inputs I want and the size/throw but I can go buying an evo thats no fun smile.gif
