OK, a guy at work showed me a YouTube video that a friend had sent to him.

First off, I hate reality shows, but.....
It totally blew me away.

Britain has a reality show called "Britain's Got Talent", similar to "America's Got Talent" and "American Idol."
The man we love to hate, Simon Cowell, is a co-judge in this competition. This video is from the initial auditions for the show. A 36 year old cell phone salesman, Paul Potts, is auditioning, and you won't believe what happens.

My favorite part, other than the performance itself, is seeing Simon sitting there in slack-jawed amazement.

Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k08yxu57NA

Yes, it really does have over 21 million views as of Feb 14th, 2008.

If you experience chills dancing up and down your spine, break out in goosebumps, and feel tears welling up in your eyes, don't worry, you aren't going crazy, it happens to a lot of people when they see this.

Speechless Tgreen, very inspirational. I continued on to other videos when he also won the event. Best of luck to Pual and his new life.

wow ! thanks for that. I generally hate programs like this, but that guy was certainly an exception to the rule, and a good story as well... phone salesman to opera singer, it makes a nice resume. laugh.gif

Kinda makes one wonder just how many peeps out there are simply undiscovered. Well, speaking strictly for myself, I have no talents remotely approaching that. Call me Simon-fodder. laugh.gif

This wonderful fellow is going to be on Oprah on Tuesday, November 6th.

I can't wait!

(I have his CD, "One Chance", playing through my computer headphones as I type this. I just keep getting goosebumps over and over again. How the hell does he do that??)

Hi, I'm back.

I've been lurking now and then just to see how things are going with projector building.

And now I'm going to shamelessly promote my favorite singer, Paul Potts, again. Mods, if this is breaking any rules, feel free to delete it.

I'm just offering this link to hear one of his songs, Everybody Hurts (yes, an REM cover.)

If this doesn't give you goosebumps, you died and forgot to fall over.

Everybody Hurts (Ognuno Soffre) mp3 - click me

Just so I don't tick anybody off, I won't mention him again.

Happy projector building!

.......lurk all you want... that guy is incredible!!! I'm not really into Opera, but I do like to hear a good voice sing. This guy puts the word "good" to shame! If the "Mods" will allow, I'd like to offer my own " I can't believe I'm hearing this". This is an a cappella group that I found on Youtube that has an unbelievable sound...

Wow, thank you, those guys are great! I just watched a bunch of their videos on youtube.

As far as Opera goes, I just can't stand Grand Opera. Bores me to tears, that throbbing, loud, soul-less nonsense. Technical correctness is all well and good, but not if you lose the connection with the audience. Quite honestly, when some of those female singers hit a high note, I would swear that someone is poking them in a sensitive spot with something really cold. laugh.gif
I was pretty shocked with myself that I just loved Paul Potts singing. He really makes an emotional connection with the audience. I think of it as "soul" opera.

Here's a youtube of Paul Potts and Natasha Marsh singing "The drinking song" from La Traviata at one of his concerts. It is really good and quite funny. (You will notice that Tasha is a bit taller than Paul. wink.gif )
