OK, here's an addition to the question that I haven't seen (tried searching, but never found any reference).

Has anybody tried projecting from behind in an open system?

What I mean is, not in an RPTV type setup, but just an open room on the other side of where you want to watch the screen from. I figure if you're tight on space (say, living in a small efficiency where two rooms are almost one save for an archway in the center where the screen would go perfectly, but the room you want to watch from is so crowed with your living room stuff that if you put the projector in there you'd have to rearrange the entire room so that nothing would block the light path coming out of the projector)

Would it be possible to set up something like this or is the enclosed RPTV type setup necessary for any sort of rear projection?

oddly I thought about doing something similar at one point.... I have a odd shaped house, almost like a trailer lol it is just one room after another after another.... a big long two story rectangle. Anyway what I was thinking about doing was mounting the projector in one room and pointingt it at a wall that happens to be between the two rooms... but using something like a shower curtain or pull down shade as the screen. but where the screen is is a hole in the wall the same size and shape.... so when projected the projection could be viewed from both sides smile.gif

But since our projectors are not high enough in lumens, the size of them, and I dont want a commercial projector... that absolutely knocked the plans off completely biggrin.gif
