As seen in this thread http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=21449

and this (amazing) thread http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry246439

I have found myself the proud owner of a Litepro 570. Oh what colleges will throw away for no good reason.

I have all kinds of plans in my head for this, but I would like to ask a few questions from the masters first.

There are two things I would like to figure out first, keystone correction and lengthening the throw with a zoom function.

As far as the throw, would I be able to increase it by switching the stock triplet with a varifocal such as the one in the LL store? The 10" FOV looks like it would match the 8.4" LCD nicely.

As far as keystone goes, I think I have read correctly that the best way of doing this is swivel mounting the front fresnel, correct? There isn't a ton of room in there to do that unfortunately, but I'll see if I can figure something out. Is it possible to do keystone at the triplet instead?

Final question for now, does anyone make an actual XGA 8" lcd? The LCD in this thing is pretty old and trashy, it needs to go stat.

Thanks, this place is amazing.

I'm curious as to why you need keystone correction as the projector was designed to be table mounted and the image displayed will be as square as could be, even if you replaced the lcd.

I have no idea if what you propose in replacing the stock triplet with a different one will actually give you a zoom feature. I have yet to see a pj, LL or retrofit, actually use a zoom option unless they either move the pj forwards or backwards. Note that all of the best designs on this site do not use a zoom feature, so if it works, then you'll be the first.

I also don't know if this is your first build. This is a little tricky in retrofitting this pj and since I already stripped two lcds successfully I was more confident in taking on this project than had I not built a diy pj before.

My advice to you is simply find an easy-to-strip lcd (like my insignia), retrofit only that component into the 570, and try it out at length in your viewing area. If you actually think the triplet and freshnel upgrades are necessary, then slowly do them one at a time.

Good luck and have fun

For some reason, every surface I put it on, I end up with keystone issues. I usually have to scoot a cd case or something in the back to fix it, which messes up the focus a bit. Ideally, I would like to ceiling mount it on a rail, which would certainly require some form of keystone.

I'm not as married to the zoom idea as I am to just lengthening the throw. I'm shooting for about a 50" horizontal image at 9-10 feet or so, currently I get about 80-90 at that distance. A zoom would make it that much easier to place in the room, but if implementing it is way over my head, no biggie.

This is in fact my first build, but I don't care if I blow it up since it was free laugh.gif. I actually have a 15" XGA panel lying around, if this project goes well I might make myself a real projector as well. I have done a considerable number of laptop, ipod and cell phone LCD repairs and replacements so I'm not particularly worried about my skills with small, delicate electronics. Woodworking on the other hand...

While the LCD sucks, this is my first PJ, so I don't really care that much. Getting the right image size is more important to me right now.
