Idea: Use the 4.5 Quart Norpro and the MH400U Bulb for a less expensive setup.

As I understand it the reason why the users in the forum switched to the smaller eye bulb was so that the bulb would fit within the 1.5 Quart Norpro (Reflector).

I was thinking how nice it would be to be able to use the less expensive MH400U Bulb $15-$25 instead of the Eye $35 or Pulse Strike $49 but still take advantage of the Norpro (Reflector).

I came across the larger 4.5 Quart Norpro Mixing Bowl (Reflector) instead of the
1.5 Quart Norpro that most people are using.

Since I am planning to make a 17" projector my box will be bigger than the current 15" plans call for so fitting the larger Norpro into the box will not be a problem.

I figure all I would have to do is mount the mogul base for the MH400U Bulb on a bigger wooden base so that the larger bulb was properly aligned within the larger Norpro (Reflector).

I understand that the Pulse Strike has a nicer color temperature and a quicker restrike time but if I am willing to give this up is there any reason why the cheaper bulb and the larger Norpro will not work?

This is incorrect. The EYE was chosen or a few reasons:

Higher lumens output

Longer life (I think)

And a Smaller Form Factor, which while, yes, it does alow the use of a reflector, the original reason for a smaller form factor was so that we could eliminate the need to mount the lamp diagonally, and would allow us to mount it horizontally instead.

Adding the Norpro mixing bowl as a hemishperical reflector was an innovation that came a few months after the EYE had become the recommended lamp.

So we can use the m400 HUGE bulb with a bigger reflector? or not?

I understand everything has to be centered. So if we build the box bigger, so that we can mount the M400 bulb horizontaly, can we still use a reflector, if we find one big enough? Or will making the box bigger make too much light go every which way...?
