I know a guy that works in a TV repair shop, so I asked him if he has a FS mirror for me! Then he gave me one he took from an old TV !!
So my question is, is there any quality in FS mirror?
I know the best one are 94% reflective, but are all 94% reflective ?
Is mine a 94% because it has been taken from a rptv ?

Very pricey ones may be had with exotic coatings and they reflect more than 94%. But it's a diminishing returns game for the high dollar FS mirrors. Some have reported (elken is one) observing qualitative differences (color quality as evidenced in the projected image) with various lower cost mirrors. No one has slapped a $200 high grade mirror into a projector yet TTBOMK. My two cents: just about any FS mirror will provide acceptable results for all but the most discriminating (gotta-have-the-best tongue.gif ) folks. Good flatness (planarity) and thickness are desirable.

Yep, You can pretty much take that to the bank. The replacement mirrors for some RPTV's run between 170-220 dollars. Most of them are standard nuetral coating FS mirror. There are a few that have been "tuned" for the bulb used in the RPTV so your results could be a tad skewed, most mfrs ( as I understand it) prefer to adjust color by either a different bulb or different processing, usually the latter.

Good score! wink.gif

Ok so I can have a freaking nice mirror, or just a normal one !! hehe
Well I ll give it a try, I got it for free smile.gif
I just have no idea from what type of rptv it has been taken out from !!
Well anyway, if the color are all freaked out, it's not a big deal just to buy a ne mirror and replace it smile.gif
Thank guys !!

By the way, duranko ... you are in every topic, every thread .. EVERY WHERE !
I can't even think off asking a question and have an answer from somebody else then you tongue.gif Thanks a bunch ! wink.gif
Very helpfull smile.gif

Have a good day !

I have FS mirrors if the rptv doesnt work out for you. the most important factor in FS mirrors is the flatness and how thick (3mm,6mm) I get my mirrors optically flat with <1 wavelength variance. I can also cut them any size or shape.

He I got a dumb question is a ohp mirrior a fs mirror ?? Just wondered because I took a walmart mirror yesterday and angled it over my projector and got just as good a picture as with the ohp mirror... So my guess would be no.... So if this is the case would an fs mirror make my image brighter... Or should I just be happy that I have an image and 1 big screen 6.5 x 14 measured today... Its not super bright but hey its 10.5 ft away from the wall
cool 1
Pcpro guy your projected image looks great minus the grain mine looks just like yours if you want to get picky, thats to be expected from DIY you have done an excellent job (hopefully)the next 1 will turn out better it just takes allot of patience, persistence tweaking, and allot of hard work.Good Job!!

The difference between a Front Surface mirror and a "walmart" mirror is the surface. A standard mirror has the surface of the mirror behind the glass so you have to look through the glass for the reflection. so the Front surface of the standard mirror is the glass. if you look at the back side of this mirror you will see a painted on coating to protect the back of the reflective surface.
A Front Surface mirror is the reflective coating on the surface of the glass with no coating over it. this reflective surface is the front surface because the reflection does not go through the glass to reflect back an image it reflects directly off the mirror coating.
in folded projectors we want the front surface reflection only, not the added reflection of the glass surface if the image has to pass through it before it hits the reflective mirror. this glass surface can produce a ghost image in the projected image at your screen due to the reflective properties of glass. the mirror in your OHP has to be a FS mirror.
Some people have had good results with a standard mirror some have had problems.
A FS mirror will not increase your brightness as any piece of optics in the path will take something away from the image. tweaking will get the image as bright as it can get. dont forget you are 10 feet from the screen.
you will get it to work it just takes time, ask Durachko!!
