Full Version: Directv Password/parental Locks Tied To Access Card Or Reciever?

I recently purchased a used DTV Samsung Sir-TS360 HD reciever to use for free OTA HD broadcasts. However, I need to change the "dish type" from dish to antenna. However, the previous owner set a password lock and I can not get access to the set up (the previous owner is not known, found box at a swap meet).

My question is, are the parental lock passwords tied to the access card or the reciever itself? Ive tried reseting the system, opening it up and looking for some type of cmos battery possibly holding the info and removing, and Ive also tried calling directv but they refuse to help unless im paying for there service.

I was thinking I could use someone else's access card to change the setting (if password/parental locks are tied to access cards) so I could set it. The damn thin works, I just need to change it to antenna. I really dont want to have to go through 10,000 possible password combinations. (0-9, 4 digit password).

This was posted in the AVS forum a few years back:
"You need an access card to set up the 360 for OTA only.....you don't need a DirecTV account nor do you need to be connected to a dish.

After the installation screen comes up, press select on the remote or on the unit itself. Once you get into the set-up menu you'll be able to navigate through to installation > set dish > select dish type, at which point you'll use the up and down buttons to select No Dish. After that, press the right arrow button to highlight 'select GUI' and then press select and you'll get a message that the receiver will reboot...that should do it."

I don't have one, so no idea if that helps.

Thanks, I know this info. However, when I get to select dish setup it asks for a password.

from what I remember form the h/hu days the password was on the card?
probably could stick a old h/hu or virgin card in there to access the menu if the receiver supports it and that is indeed where the password is stored.
