In the 15" folded light path diagram, what is the purpose of the exterior mirror as shown in the diagram? It apprears if you draw out the path of the light that this mirror will destroy the image created as it doesn't affect all of the rays including the center path.

Please let me know as I am interested in building this model.

The last mirror would have to be larger than shown, the drawing is just an illustration. You might want to hold off because I'm about to eliminate the last mirror.
sbockh01
About to eliminate? Do you have a timeline on the new design?

Forgive a stupid question, but where is this diagram?

Thanks,

Is the new 15 folded design going to be smaller than the others? What do you think the smallest footprint you could make would be ?

About 8" x 17" x 16"
sbockh01
Is this the size of the new design or is it the smallest possible?
brainchild
Smallest 15" conceived of to date.

WHen will your new 15in folded design be published? Where can i find the smallest one you described above?

D'oh! I looked at that diagram a few times and never noticed the external mirror. I guess it's that yellow-on-white contrast, eh? smile.gif

Thanks,
Phil.

Any word on this yet? All my parts should be here soon and I'd much rather build a box that size, instead of the larger ones everyone else is building. That is, unless it compromises the picture quality.
Thx

Brain told me that maybe by the end of this week he would have the new design. He is still trying to get one of the mirrors to sit right. So we will have to wait and see smile.gif

Any update on the new 15' folded design?

Ive given up hope. Think I'll just build the easy one. I cant stand looking at all those parts on my floor just knowing that I have everything I need to build an awesome projector. Its eating my insides!

Just out of curiosity, Brian, I know you are still working on this VERY anticipated design, but is this the interior, or exterior dimensions, do you figure????
joshthehappy
Hey, i really like your plans, in fact they are printed out in front of me.
You said these were the pro, uncut right, if this was to be the same setup, and but with the lenses cut for a 17" inch 4:3, how much would that change the overall size? (i'd figure it out myself , but i'm having trouble with that still)

Greetings All,

This is a happening place Brian. I've been trying to figure out how I can get a projector mounted in my classroom without pouring alot of personal money into it--enter LumenLab. Now I'm tempted to make one for church, and for home, and...

I'm most interested in the folded 15" and the Lilliput 7" that your working on. It's very groovy, and I toast you on both accomplishments. I too wondered about the external mirror on the 15" folded. Can you tell us what the purpose was, and how you are removing it from the design? (Is it simply to project parallel to the length of the projector rather than out the corner?)

Thanks,
Seth

hey seth
brain is currently working on a new folded design for the 15" that will eliminate the third mirror.
samuraijack
I am insanely curious as to how this is coming along. Any word yet? I have rafters in my ceiling that would be PERFECT for hiding a small box like this.

Pictures Brain? Please?.....Pretty Please? cool.gif

Sorry guys no pix yet, I'm having a severe deficit for time atm..

Greetings Brian and Forum Members,

Any word or insite on the folded 15" design with eliminated 3rd mirror? Still wondering what the purpose of the 3rd mirror is, and how it can be removed.

Do you have any conceptual drawings of the new folded 15" design Brian?

Cheers,
Seth
brainchild
I do have some drawings, I'll try to get them posted. I am not building this design anymore though, I decided to do a single mirror design because I just want to get my 17" done.
wallygoots
Will you post those drawings, Brian, so I can implement some of calculations into my own prototypes?

Thanks, Seth

I would also much rather build the smaller box. My biggest concern is how it will affect the picture quality. Does anyone know if this will have the same quality as the original larger design? Also, where do we get these mirrors?
brainchild
We sell the mirror, write to sales if you'd like one.

The quality can't be the same as a straight shooter or single mirror design. We're looking at 8% light loss per bounce. When I evaluate my situation, a slightly smaller box isn't going to make a bit of difference. My projector is still in it's place whether it is 4" shorter in height or not. A single fold can get me out of the long profile that juts out into the room, but only cost me 8%. If I can harvest a bit more light from the lamp I can compensate for that, and I've introduced less possible image degradation into the system.

Brain:

I had to waive the quotation Kellie provided for the FS mirror because of the high shipping cost. The original intention was to have the mirror shipped with the rest of my components. Since I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to find reasonably priced FS mirrors locally, I went about researching your mylar mirror option and discovered that a store nearby has a 9"x12" mylar mirror for what is surely a ridiculously low price ? Care to comment on the use of such mylar mirrors in a folded 17" projector despite the fact that they're counter-productive to your stock of FS mirrors ?

If I already had a FS mirror on hand, I would still test the mylar mirror application first just to establish whether it was a viable alternative.
ednigma
My Mitsubishi rear projection HDTV purchased in 2000 used a mylar mirror. Mylar is highly reflective, but scratches very easily. Many folded projection TVs you can buy use mylar mirrors.

hey would the 15" -that has the 2 mirrors shown, and one external- work with just 2 and be a good floor model, or am i just looking at it wrong?

and if so, what angle is the lcd at?
