Found this page that describes how to maximize light for LCD's. It would be cool if this could be worked into a projector. I get giddy just thinking of being able to use some of all that light that normally would be wasted.

When you strip your LCD monitor, chances are excellent that a reflective polarizer is in there, along with collimating films and other cool sheets with neat optical properties.

Since I'm using fluorescent bulbs in my build with a reflective lightbox, I'll be experimenting with all that stuff that you find in the backlight assembly.

By the way, the "mirror-like" film that everyone is peeling off of the back of the popular 10.6 LCD is a reflective polarizer. (Some are glued to the LCD, some are loose in the backlight assembly.)

Yah, I have yet to build my projector, but I think I'll have to get some cheep-o parts just to try reproducing this idea. If it works I should see some improvement in brightness without actually building a projector.

Don't think I'll need any fresnels or triplet for experimenting with this. Probably just an LCD, light source, and the other parts listed in the paper. Oh, and one last crucial thing...time. Of which I have none. I'm lucky I even have time to read this. sad.gif Although I do have to admit; even though I am way too busy, I am having fun. smile.gif But still it might be a while before I can start any new projects. sad.gif
