Well, about two years ago I was looking online for neat DIY projects. I have always had a very large interest in great audio, so building a pair of speakers was right up my ally. I stumbled upon Parts Express and checked out their Project Showcase. I saw the Dayton III's and they seemed just right. Good specs and a good price to boot. I got all of the parts from family members for Christmas and immediately went to work.

The first thing that I built were the crossovers.

Then I had to take them for a test drive...

Then I thought, "Hey, maybe these should go into actual boxes...

So after a lot of sanding and painting this is what I got...

That one got lonely after a while sad.gif , so I built another one to go with it smile.gif ...

Here's the port...

Well, that's them. They sound awesome! For the small investment in time and money I am 1000% pleased. All that I have to compare them to is a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls, Klipsch KG-4's, and Pioneer HPM-100's. I prefer them to any of the other speakers we have. They don't quite have the bass of the other speakers, nor the efficiency of the Klipsch's, but they are much more detailed across the whole spectrum. They do good with any music, but they have absolutely no problem really rocking hard (my preference). They are painted with Rustoleum Hammered paint. It took me about a week to build them, most of the time routing the speaker recessions with a Dremel and router attachment (very crappy sad.gif ).

The original plans for them are at SpeakerBuilder.net. Just ask if you have any more questions.

Between these, my PJ in the works, my modded xbox, and one last component I plan on having a COMPLETELY DIY HOME THEATER smile.gif .

Just a little clue on the last part, it is still in the works, but here is a picture of it in the making. (don't use the picture as a reference, the diodes are on backwards)

They're Pioneer HPM-100's.

Interesting, they look just like my KLH 510-Loudspeakers.

Just so you know, if you click on the speakerbuilder.net link, it tries to install a virus on your computer. sad.gif

Good looking speakers,

I am just starting to read up on building speakers. But thanks for posting your project / success story. I am definitely stoked on building my own set similar to yours. When I do I will post my project log here.

Cheers
