Full Version: Trouble Hooking Up Projector Output Through Ht Receiver

My projector is done enough that we've been enjoying it quite a bit. My wife is thrilled with the results (especially after I went to 2 12v computer case fans for cooling and reduced the noise). I'm blown away by her happy reaction.

So I had the idea that buying a nice receiver that had HDMI inputs and output would let me connect a game console and my Media Center computer through the HDMI inputs, and use a single HDMI output to run the projector. The receiver has upscaling on both component and HDMI ports all the way up to 1080p, so I'd love to use it this way. But so far, I only have a black screen when I try this configuration.

Could this be an HDCP issue? Is there a configuration option that needs to be set somewhere? Do DVI to HDMI cables not work for this configuration?

I've found myself tempted to buy the WUXGA screen and controller to go up to 1080p, but I'm very concerned that wouldn't affect the issue (unless it really is from HDCP).

A few details that may or may not help:
  • Computer connected through DVI to DVI works great at 1280x1024
  • Computer connected by DVI to HDMI to the receiver, and receiver to projector by HDMI to DVI does not work at all for video
  • Connecting the digital cable set-top box to the receiver (composite) does not display either, but audio works
Any helpful suggestions are very welcome. smile.gif

Yes this is an Hdcp issue.

You need an Hdcp stripper or you can copy movies to Dvr and then play them upconverted through Hdmi.

if you go with the Wuxga you will need to buy the Mst controller. It has Hdcp enabled.

Thanks Jon, I was afraid that would be the answer yet it's good to have some confirmation of that idea before I spend more money.

You sure the unit upscales from the component to HDMI? Our receiver upscales composite and s-video to component but does not upscale that to HDMI.

The specs on the receiver specifically state that it upconverts from S-Video, composite, and component to either component or HDMI. That was the only reason I talked myself into spending the money for it.
