well i want to make speker stands that are about a foot or more high, and as cheap as possible, now im not that good with google sketch up but ill try to get a picutre up later. I was the base to be triangler and the "pole" to be a peice of PVC. The top will also be a triangle also, i guess one question i have is how would i connect the pvc to the base and the top? since it a cylinder i think it would be rather hard . anyways if you guys have any other ideas or easy design lmk thaks

If it were me I would go to the Bargain outlet / mr. seconds & buy some cheap pine boards then cut them to size & shape.

then, I would use a hold saw the same diameter as the PVC & cut about half-way down so you have a circular gouge that the PVC will fit into.

Then either Glue it in place with some Gorilla Glue or construction adhesive.
Sand the pine then paint everything the same color.

This is if your planing on using smallish speakers.

I thought about the hole saw idea too, but thought that the groove wouldn't be big enough for the pvc to fit into. I doubt the kerf on the blade would be that wide.

I recommend getting a flange for the top and bottom, secured with lots of PVC glue. Home Depot flange

Any reason you chose PVC? How tall? How heavy are the speakers?

I just finished a pair of stubby stands for something like $35 in materials (oak, mdf, glue, stain, and lacquer spray paint). All I did was sandwich the mdf between the oak boards, glue, and clamp. Then I screwed the uprights into a footplate and filled them with sand. Sturdy and purdy, if I do say so myself tongue.gif

D'oh!
Ok what I said plus running a dremmil around till it's wide enough to take the PVC.

If I keep following this path my ideas will become drawn out & over-complicated.
Like most of my DIY projects. smile.gif

Mine are pretty cheap biggrin.gif biggrin.gif i still have to paint them but i think they look pretty good. the stand is made of outside pole that was 1.96 for a 10 foot section looks freat it is flat on 2 sides and rounded on the other 2 edges. i get 3 stands out that 1 2 feet and 2 other that are 3 feet. the base and platform was some cut pine they had that was 4 feet long for 2.50 and you can get 4 pieces out of that i attached a pic.
