This is my first post, I did search the forums for Convergence and scanned every post of the 3 some pages the search query returned, but I did not find any answers.
I have an older Epson ELP-7100 (7000XB) Powerlite Projector (LCD)
I recently purchased this projector, I installed a brand new ELP replacement lamp.
The picture is pretty fair, but I am having problems with "Ghosting", which after doing
some research, it appears it is a convergence issue.
I have come to this conclusion, because the ghosting of the image is a "solid" color
outline, in exactly equal distance on either side of the screen.
Most noticebly the Red LCD, and when certain images are on screen, the green LCD
ghosting is also apparent.
I took the projector apart, there are 2 main boards, the first topmost board is the video
controller that handles the VGA signal (Computer 1 and 2), the bottom board handles
the LCD panel drivers for the Red, Green and Blue LCD panel, also it has a video board
to handle the composite and SVHS video sources.
The filter above the prism and LCD panels was dusty, I blew the dust out of it.
There were no calibration POTS, anywhere, that I could see.
I am assuming its chip controlled, and perhaps someone here has the knowledge
to access the Service Menu.
I found 2 hidden menus so far, one is stricly for "Controller Use" and the second
only displays the video source and the frequency in Horizontal and Verticle, when
a video source other than a PC VGA signal is attached, it only displays dashes.
I ran across a posting on another forum, this guys Epson Powerlite (same model as mine)
just suddenly started displaying this type of behavoir. He found no answers. I am
hoping to have better luck.
While the projector was disassembled, I checked the prism and LCD panel mounts,
the prism was still securely attached, and the LCD panels also appeared perfectly
secured.
I noticed this type of defect is most common when a projector has been damaged
by say dropping it, etc. And the prism can be re-seated and glued back into place
once properly aligned, and it generally fixes this error, however, this projector
does not seem to have undergone any shock, as the prism and panels are still
securely fastened.
There are no obstructions on the lense, there are no obstructions on the prism face,
so this is not a defect from "globbing" or obstruction of smears, lint, or other optical
obstruction.
Does anybody have any help, is there a hidden "secret" service menu, that I may
be able to get into to calibrate convergence?
Any help would be most appreciated. Also it has a new Air Filter, and there are no
dirt or debris anywhere that would be the cause of this problem.
It is confusing that the prism appears to be fastened securely, as I was expecting
a problem such as that, that I could easily fix, defeated I come here for answers,
I hope someone may offer me a solution. Please PM, email or reply to this posting
if you can offer any insight.
I have the USA model, but as I understand it, several Epsons in this family may
have the same "hidden menus" and the UK version should as well, so if you have
experience with ANY of the powerlites around this model number, please let me know.
Thank you! If this is posted in the wrong area, I apologize, moderaters please
feel free to move this to the appropriate area.
