Full Version: Hydrogen Rockets

Earlier this year i set out to build a device capable of producing hydrogen/oxygen mixture from electrolysis of water to be used to fill a 2 ltr bottle and then ignite to launch it into the sky.

Picture of the electrolysis unit. Even though it is small, it produces an incredible amount of hydrogen, approx 250mls a minute so i can basically fill an entire bottle in about 5 minutes

It was built using epoxy with perspex and stainless steel electrodes (took me ages to cut with a hacksaw lol)

This is the launcher, basically an aluminium tube stuck to a board of wood, has a hole in the side that is connected via the tube to the electrolysis unit and it has a copper wire spark gap at the top which is remotely connected to a BBQ spark igniter so i can launch the bottle.

Heres a basic vid of it in action, i hope to get a better vid of this (its pretty undramatic lol)

And heres the video of me detonating a carbomb lol, i (stupidly) overfilled a 3 Ltr bottle with the hydrogen and the explosion was so loud it temporarily left me deaf. Never doing that again lol.

Awesome frame by frame clip of that.
BlindVision
hydrogen/oxygen out of water, in a water rocket -ignite and WHAMMM -CATO
-BUT seriously cool, build -ADD some fin to the rocket, shot it strait up
