Full Version: My Diy Moviemate
Lumenlab > Audio Video Sciences > Advanced Projector Builder > Projectors based on small panels

Inspired by verboten's current project of retrofitting a Litepro 550 with the 7.2" WXGA, I too set and found a Litepro 760 to create my version of the Epson Moviemate.

For those unaware, the Moviemate is an all-in-one system consisting of a 16:9 lcd projector+ built in dvd player. Using the components I now have, i will attempt to duplicate this very cool little system for bedroom and portable use. The insignia was initially a gift for in-car playing but since my daughter deciding to short it by spilling milk on it (shouldn't cry over spilled milk), I gutted it, cleaned it , and with the addition of this Litepro ($45.00 at a pc surplus store), this should tidy my tinkering needs until I finally start on my 15" projects.

As always, pictures say louder than words, so...
Includes carry-on bag- cool!

I'll keep the lighting system in place until I see fit to upgrade to a better light engine.

Unlike the 550, this bizarro model only has a computer input. Adios p.o.s.!

I tell ya, this is a lot easier than making a box and messing around with distances and stuff. Plus this whole project will cost me under $50.00 smile.gif

Stay tuned...

Vic, you must say the even light and focus is dam pretty good on these units, cant wait till i see yours finished.

Hope you use a 150 metal hid lamp, i sold my lightpro before i could do the mod's.
savo
also by the way the rear fresnel is a 220 unit im assuming the front is 330, cheap parts.

that's awesome....good luck!!

All right, lets gut a projector...

From the top

A very clean and professional design

a few screws later...

So the questions remains "If I remove the lcd, will it still light up and fan work?"
-Yes

In order to make sure there is a circuit board where the computer plug is attached to. I left that in place to power the fan and turn on the light. I suppose in the future I could wire it directly but for now, why bother.

Prior to removing the lcd, I used a transparentcy to find out the orientation of the lcd

Closeup. Basically the top of the lcd is pointed to the ground and the lcd display should be facing the light

As it shows on the screen wall

Upon removing the lcd, I looked at the rear freshnel and found this blue-colored transparency (for lack of a better description) screwed to it. What is it for?

The lcd is removed and will be discarded. I put everything back to do a test before I work on the lcd frame design.

All in all, a very straightforward and easy design. No trying to figure out distances or even lighting. Everythings nicely laid out and designed for easy removal and repair. if you're looking for an easy no brainer way to go 7.2 in the future, this is the way!

I’m guessing that it’s a filter to correct the color of the lamp

you wouldn't happen to have the remote for the projector would you?
victor-eyd
Didn't come with one
verboten1
are you going to keep the halogen lighting?
victor-eyd
Probably as this will be used more as a bedroom/occasional projector rather than a dedicated movie pj. I already have the Sharp A10x for that.

Using telephone wire, I've been able to lengthen all of the wires from the circuit board to the dvd player. I'm about as ready as I'll be in putting the unit together, hopefully by the weekend.

Here's the wiring for the insiginia. A steady hand and a good soldering iron and I've extended the wiring to more than acceptable length

Can we get the pics back for this topic now that the 7.2 panels with the FFC are in stock.
victor-eyd
Will do. But that $ on 7.2 is serious blink.gif ! I don't have that much coin and if I did, I can just toss out all of my other pj projects out the door tongue.gif

Victor

Yeah I here you on the 7.2 price but maybe if we cry loud enough the price will drop laugh.gif I just scored a litepro kinda by accident, offered a low price and they bit the wife is going to kill me. I havent even finished my 15.4
greymalkin
ditto on the price of the 7.2. I spent a total of $200 on my entire 15 "projector, and it would cost me like $600 to get the light/lcd kit for this thing. I'm going to have to break the purchases up...find a way to get the right size/type of light system...and then get the 7.2 when it has come down quite a bit.
