Looks very nice !!!

Have you tested the lumens yet?

And how do you like the 10.6" after all is said and done? Happy with the colors/contrast/brightness/Hd?
infinityPlusOne
Hey way to go, man. That looks awesome. Now you can sit back and relax.

I want my 10.6 PJ to be finished... sad.gif
Philw
Don't have a meter sad.gif , but I'll find one on Ebay or at a swap meet.
Overall I'd give the MST and the 10.6 a 9.5 and be happy to recommend the combo.
A wide screen picture at 720p is jaw dropping, I can't imagine what 1080p would look like.

How's the heat in that thing? Any light leaks?
mdmfootball
Man that looks sweet!. I really like how it looks with the fiberglass cloth I am going to do that mine as well (you beat me to it!). It looks really bright with that 275 watt lamp, everyone has been using the 150 watt lamps, I was waiting for someone to use a real mans bulb! biggrin.gif I do have on question though, what are all the connections on the back I see the component, and composite ones but what are the ones to to the left of them? They look like audio plugs but I could really tell. How big did is it, it look really small like a commercial (only much better!) Really nice job on the PJ I think it looks awesome!

A temperature probe between the Fresnel and LCD is showing about 5-7 degrees F difference from outside air, in my garage.

I have a 2-1/4 inch fan built into the back of the light box that pumps air straight toward the rear exhaust fans.

No light leaks the entire PJ was built with 1/4" Luan and then fiberglassed with 6oz. cloth and resin.

Thanks smile.gif

Yep, fiberglass and bondo grinds off real easy and the paint I used covers a multitude of sins wink.gif
I started with a 150, just didn't think it was enough.

The PJ is about:
8.5" high
12" wide
30" long

Connections are Audio out, HDMI, Composit, Video and L-R audio, VGA with 1/8" phone jack for sound, F type connector for standard def TV and one set of RCA's for future.

As for light leaks I was thinking more of leaks coming from the exhaust fan holes. Do you have louvers by the exhaust fans?

I have no idea what I'm doing for the electrical, but all I know is that I want it setup like yours. I just read through your plog and will probably be referencing it when I actually start building.
x_25
Philw, i forgot to ask, where did you get your bulb? because i am building a pj this summer and i want something brighter than a 150w but i also want as little heat as possible. I already have enfough heat generating electronics in my room already.
arizonavideo
I would like to know the part # of a 275 watt 90 CRI lamp too.

Thanks.

I got to thinking about my reply to you yesterday and it dawned on me you where really asking about leaks around equipment, Duh blink.gif . Anyway I'm not really trying to kill all the light leaks. Thats why I'm not having heat related issues, you have to get the hot air out. The way I look at it you have to have some light around to find your remote and beer smile.gif . I do have one light baffle over the static air intake on top. So to me it's a trade off, heat problems or a little extra light in a black room. A lot of spurious light it taken care of when you make an enclosed light box.

I use to fly R/C ducted fan jets. Very, very clean intake air was required to get maximum thrust from an impeller. There's just too many hard right angles in my PJ to accomplish that, well at least more work than I want to put into it. smile.gif

Here ya go AZ and X, the exposed arc area is aprox. 1" long X 3/4" in dia..
It's not the best but I'm no videophile either, It looks good to my eyeballs.
Don't know if it was a good price but I got shopper fatigue. blink.gif biggrin.gif

Very nice job on your PJ

That turned out exceptional! Nice fiberglass work, neat wiring, compact design, definitely for the hall of fame!

Looks to be a very nice lamp too, good color spectrum.

Well done

PJ came out looking great and I hope mine will come out half as good.

But I am confused, Did you overclock a 250w lamp with a m59 ballast? Is that how you got the 275w or is it a m58 ballast with a cap OCed. and if so how much did you overclock it.

It is nice to see a 10.6 done, and I will give my vote for your PJ to be in the hall of fame.

Oops, should have read 250w.

Here's some pics.
The first is "Monsters" I think, it was on ABC tonight.
I'm using a Samsung HD set top tuner going through the composite connections. This would be at 720p from the MST controller.
Philw
The next is from a up-converting DVD player, HDMI connection,@ 720p, 10-12 feet out, about a 6' X 5' screen, 4 X 3 I guess, on blackout cloth.
"Bridges at Toko-Ri"

"Fifth Element"
Wide screen, going through the HDMI connection.

And of course the red head.smile.gif

Very nice Phil. However, I must admit I'm a little upset that your first PJ turned out so well. You're making the rest of us who are working on rebuilds look bad tongue.gif

LOL, no reason to be.
I just copied all of your good works. smile.gif

Great work man especialy for a 250 watt pj. I took the dive with a 250 watt for my first build and it really works great with a smaller panel but my color temp wasn't all that. I will have to look into swapping out my bulb for the one you listed it's a good thing I didn't tear apart the old 250 watt.

I must say that the images are really clear but I was wondering if you had any issues with the vga board with your component inputs and tv tuner. Well I hope you take the time to enjoy the new baby because the tweaking bug is a evil thing smile.gif

VGA issues?
As in a pc pluged into the VGA port when using items pluged into the component inputs?

hey philw! just wanted to say good job on your PJ!
i just hope mine will turn out half as good as yours!
also since i can't say it enough ehhe thanks for the audio harness!!
ehhe right now my PJ building is on hold, for some reason my lcd died sad.gif
since the controller still light up im hoping that its just the lcd and not both.
anyway, once again great job on your PJ!
Philw
HiYa n1co35, hope you solve your problem with your LCD. Make sure your connection from your control board is plugged in properly. Johnzo has a picture of a proper connection on one of the 10.6/MST post in small screen section.

Oh man, now I really want one of those 10.6" screens! I'm working on my first one, but it's going to have to be based around an OHP that I got for free and plan on modding a new lighting system into. Would you mind telling me how the PJ looks with a bit of light in the room? I plan on using mine with my friends as a general-purpose entertainment center with my PC and game playing and for some TV watching, meaning that I probably won't be able to make the room really dark all the time.

Also, I was looking through your build plog and liked your audio out solution. I assume that the controller board just gives a line-level signal from all audio sources, including the TV coax? This is what I'm hoping for since I would like to connect this to my receiver (Onkyo TX-SR502) for sound. It looks like the connector is similar to the ones found on PC CD-ROM drives, so that might make connecting that easier for me since I think I have a bunch of those cables lying around. If not, then I don't mind a little retrofitting (a skill that one masters in the R/C car hobby--wow, I really need cheaper hobbies biggrin.gif ).

Thanks for sharing the info!

I would say that the lighting in the room is no more or less than what's at the typical movie theater. I find myself looking to lighten up the room just a-bit, can't find me beer and the all important remote!:D

The audio is line level from all sources.

I've tried the cd cable, doesn't work. I wound up cutting up a headphone extension cable and soldering the wires directly to the pins, it's in the plog.

Hope this helps, good luck!
You'll love it!

Hey

could you post a picture of your ballast?

All I could find is that M59 ballasts are for 400w and M58 for 250w.

If your bulb is working fine with a M59, then great, I'll buy a bulb like yours.
