Ok, Here it is, my ugly projector.

Its not pritty but it works.

ok, time for some specks.

It uses a psone screen with the brightness mod and the ag removed. It has 2 100w cfls for the light source, the lens is the delta II rptv lens. The image is about 78" 4:3.

This is my first projector to see how dificult the process was. For my next one i will be building a 10.6"
x_25
Here are some screens, i will put more up when i get arround to it.

these pictures are very close to how it looks in reality.

Princess Mononoke

And one more that shows the contrast.

PS. I love my camera, the pictures it takes are very "true"
x_25
Just for fun here it is projecting a 100" to 120" 16:9 image.

hows your visability with such a low power bulb?

There are actully two bulbs in it and it is suprisingly bright. It isnt super bright and is best in a very dark room but it is fully watachable.

Ok, got some screens from the movie narnia.

How do you like it for now?
I hope you get to start a big one soon biggrin.gif

Well, to put it simply, i love my projector. i just finished playing some guitar hero on it. Evin if it isn't very bright i still love useing it. Ive probably put over 60 hours on it already. And to tell the truth, it has just as good of a picture as any of the tv's in my house. (the best tv we have is an 18 year old 25" crt that is slightly out of focus.) Ill start my next projector once i get my room clean. You can go to my home theater plog (link in signeture) to see how that is progressing. happy.gif
Nitrogen_Widget
I've seen the exact same bulbs at walmart only they are 65 watter's.
Same specs.
ReD_DoG
i use 120v 300w overhead projector bulbs...

a little wireing and they plug right into the wall....

there extreamly bright.. and work great.

Took lux reading today and it confirms what i have suspected from the beginning. My projector is the dimmest one on lumen lab. happy.gif All the ones that are 1.5 are aproximate because my lux meter cant go lower than 1.7 and it just gave me an error. dry.gif

1.5 1.5 1.5
2.4 4.7 1.7
1.5 3.5 1.5

Total lux = 19.8

avarage lux = 2.2 blink.gif

I took measurements with the white cap off my meter so i could get readings to calculate the vigenting, here are the readings.

14 19 9.6
54 152 54
30 120 38

vigenting=32.55% (did i do the math right?)

Is there a prize for having the lowest lux and still being fully watchable? cool.gif

I have always wanted to use a projector for a computer monitor but my curent projector is so low resolution that it doesnt work well with my computers, except for one.

The Commodore 64

That was like a forum post from 1988, if the Internet had been around back then.

I love it. cool.gif

Do you think your projector is brighter or dimmer than one of those eBay rip-off, upside-down-TV-in-a-box-with-a-fresnel projectors?

It was around then. It wasn't a graphical interface, and had about 50,000 connections, but it was definitely there.
Around 91-92 I was still using mostly text based tools (Archie, Gopher, etc), and one of them was a basic hypertext tool with a text based interface.
The next year is when Mosaic came about, and it broke the whole thing open, because it was a graphical interface to the 'new' World Wide Web.
In 93 I actually taught a short class on using the new tools to access the graphical based internet using Mosaic and the increasing number of ISPs that were suddenly popping up.

I would have to say it is probably brighter than one of thoes tv projectors because i built one, but i used a magnafying glass insted of a fresnel.

how about this blast from the past.

I finaly took some pictures from a reference movie. Finding Nemo. The colors are actually a little more vibrant in real life.

Hi x_25,

I had to come see what you were talking about when you said 2.2 lux.

Yeah its not that bright. But it works and you have been able to enjoy it.

POS or not, I guess I am just biased. The fact that you could make it work I think is what drives a lot of us to build these things. Congrats.

With the first one being dim, your next one is gonna be a blinding super nova in comparison!

Your friends may say that its a POS but in the back of their minds they are jealous. wink.gif

okay i like your images trying to get mine finalised i have a OHP bulb with reflector but dont really want to use it HEAT and short life I want to use the 2 CFL like you can I see a pic of inside your light box i am not to concerned with super bright just as long as it works in a dark room it will pretty much be a kids projecot box, i am thinking 2 cfl fres 7" lcd fres and triplet the fres are fom OHP hopefully this will at least be as good as yours.
x_25
As requested lightbox pictures ( this is as far as i can take it appart because the rest is duct taped together) Basicly all it is is a cardboard box lined with aluminum foil and two bulbs mounted vertically in it. There is a samll fan on the back of it and a biger one pushing some air in (probably overkill but when i have it on for 12 hours at a time its nice). If i did this again i would use 4 bulbs.

Probably mounted like this.

So sdubb, that is how i suggest doing it. You will still need to line the box with aluminum foil (helps with hit spotting) and the bulbs have to be at least 5" back from the screen.

Here is my current lightbox.

with it on. It is blinding.

Hey X have you had a chance to see my plog I am using 1 50watt bulb IF you ever get a chance buy one of those bulbs and try it out 5 bux at home depot I am curious if this is better or worse as far as the dimist projector who knows we might just have a competition but it sure seems bright enough not the brightest of course smile.gif
I tried the 2CFL you have but didnt have much sucess of course I had no relective stuff going on

I guess I should mention I have a spilt setup fres and the standard triplet so that might help mine out.
x_25
Yeh, i saw your thred, the only problem i would have with that bulb is its collor tempurature. Also, to use the CFLS you need a big lens like the Delta II. To use fresnals you need a point source light and CFLS are defenetly not. Also, the reflective box is extreemly important with CFLS, without it there is majour hotspotting. Anyway, ill be watching to see how your plog turns out.
x_25
OK, well, i got a lot of work done on my room in the last few days (pictures on monday once i get everything set up nicer) and because of that i have moved my projector. It is now projecting an image that is 92"x68" which is 114" diagonal. It is realy dark now so the picture is just bearily watchable but it was wather have a dim image or have the projector right in front of me blocking my view. I figured the dim image was better.

now onto the pictures. (more to come when i take them)

and appearing for the first time ever in a picture on LL its *drumrole* ME! (on the left, the thing that appears to have no face)

For scale reference i am 5'9"

PS. On a fun sidenote acording to an email my dad just got the Central Bank of Nigeria is sending him the $12.5 million dollars that he had there and they need all his information to send it here. blink.gif laugh.gif

got to love those emails , gets u happy for like 1 second then angery that someone has the nevere to try and steal all your hrd earned money

Seeing as i know better than to answer them i find them quite comical. I mean the Central Bank of Nigeria? can you get any more obvious (unless perhaps you live in Nigeria)

you ever make any more progress on the enclosure for this thing?
I'm waiting on a 7.5v sony power adapter to come in the mail but I have the PSOne screen stripped and ready to rock.
You dont happen to have a "s-vid to mini AV" jumper/adapter do you? I hear thats the best res you can get without doing the VGA mod on this thing. I wondered how much it improves the image.
By the way you are using the original controller for this right? Theres the brightness buttons on it, did you crank it up?

Havent done much progress but I got it diled in nicely. I did the brightness mod (search for it) and that lest me turn the brightness up past the factory limit. Just don't go too far or your contrast goes down the drain.
dreiseratops
Oh ok that was you then?
Its tough to keep track of all the reading here.
So you did the brightness and the vga mod? redness mod or any other strange ones?
Is this stuff difficult? I can solder two wires together but soldering on a board scares me. I burned out a couple transistors making a "bedini" or "schoolgirl" circuit. (perpetual motion) anyway Im interesded but dont want to have to use a PCI ATI video card doubled as I have a Nvidia now err I think. Were you the one talking about taking screenies of composite next to VGA tweaked out? cuz Im interested.

Keep on kepin on,

Nope, i only did the brightness mod. And all there is to it us useing a circuit writer pen to bypass a surface mount resistor.
