I am looking for a PCI / PCI-E / USB HD Tv tuner to work with dish network HD satalite box. It needs either HDMI or Component Input. And It has to be windows media center combatable. So far I have not had any luck finding one of these.

Thanks Eric,

laugh.gif yea, we've all been looking for an HD input card (DVI/HDMI or Component), problem is they don't exist... or at least not at a price level below that of a brand new 720p projector + 3 replacement lamps. wink.gif

However, I did just see this the other day. http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/ Very interesting, and a pretty good price to boot. Not sure how well suited (or supported) this would be as it is designed for NLE capture, so for sure WMC is not an option. I'm not even sure WMC supports HD recording... ?

For $250 HDMI and $350 with Component inputs that is an awesome card. I wish I had the budget to play around with it.

My best bet would be VLC or VirtualDub for capturing, and I don't know what you could do about compression, take a look at the specs on the video stream, get a few 500GB drives with it.

Of course with HDCP you would be screwed, you can't record that, unless you got an HD fury and plugged it into the Component in of the more expensive model. Of course this would be a great way to rip and distribute HD content for under $1000.

I am afraid you can only have one thing at a time, it is enough to ask for HD, don't expect that anything will be WMC compatible at this stage (it could be, but I doubt it).

Well I guess I am going to half to just go w/o HI Def recording. Right now I am using a tivo series 1. the video quality sucks. Whats the best tv tuner to use with windows media center?

I dont know if this is what you want but have you looked into a Voom satellite box for the HD off air tuner? thats what I have for off air HD content.

They reviewed that product on an episode of DLTV and said that it wouldn't work with HDCProtected products. (IE Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and PS3)
